Andy Murray is 'disappointed' by Emma Raducanu's withdrawal from their mixed doubles match - with two-time champion's Wimbledon career now OVER

  • Raducanu withdraw from the mixed doubles with a wrist injury on Saturday
  • Murray had been hopeful to play one last time at Wimbledon before retirement
  • Raducanu remains in the women's singles with her fourth round tie on Sunday

Andy Murray's Wimbledon career is over after Saturday's planned mixed doubles match involving fellow home favourite Emma Raducanu was called off.

Mail Sport understands that Murray is 'so disappointed' to be unable to play one last time at Wimbledon, where he twice won the men's singles event - in 2013 and 2016 - as well as Olympic gold at London 2012.

Judy Murray described the news as 'astonishing' in a post on social media following Raducanu's decision.

Murray, 37, said farewell to Centre Court on Thursday after he and brother Jamie lost 7-6 6-4 to Australian duo John Peers and Rinky Hijikata in the men's doubles.

That match was followed by a lengthy ceremony led by Sue Barker but Murray was still anticipating having, at least, one more outing at SW19.

He and Raducanu were set to take on Marcelo Arevalo and Zhang Shuai on Court No 1 on Saturday evening. But Raducanu withdrew just hours before the estimated start time, which was approximately 6pm, due to issues with her wrist.

Raducanu is still involved in the women's singles draw in west London after beating Greece's Maria Sakkari 6-2 6-3 on Friday.

The 21-year-old has not withdrawn from Wimbledon completely but said: 'I have decided to make the very tough decision to withdraw from the mixed doubles.

'I'm disappointed as I was really looking forward to playing with Andy but I've got to take care.'

Despite her sore wrist, Raducanu was on Wimbledon's practice courts on Saturday afternoon. She trained while wearing an England football shirt ahead of the Three Lions' Euro 2024 quarter-final against Switzerland.

Raducanu's withdrawal meant that both she and Murray had to pull out of Saturday's match.

Arevalo and Shuai, from El Salvador and China respectively, will instead face US duo Rajeev Ram and Katie Volynets.

Raducanu is next due to play in the second match on Centre Court on Sunday.

She will face New Zealand qualifier Lulu Sun in the last-16 of the women's singles event.
