JMU volleyball released its 2024 fall schedule Friday afternoon. 10 of the Dukes 18 opponents will be teams that qualified for the NCAA tournament in 2023 including Kentucky and Penn State who made the Sweet-16. 

After making the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2015 last season, JMU women's soccer will kick-off its 2024 regular season on Aug. 15 at Villanova. The Dukes will play 18 total games including 10 Sun Belt Conference games.

JMU catcher Jason Schiavone has had a breakout junior season with the Dukes. Schiavone grew up playing multiple sports, and even when he narrowed his sights on baseball, he wasn't sure if catcher was the position for him. Now, Schiavone is a nominee for the Buster Posey Catcher of the Year award.

JMU baseball split a doubleheader with Arkansas State on Friday after their game on Thursday was delayed. The Dukes won their first matchup 9-4 and lost the second 8-1.  

During the Board of Visitors meeting, President Alger introduced three new faces to JMU Athletics: AD Matt Roan, football head coach Bob Chesney, and men's basketball head coach Preston Spradlin. During the meeting, Chesney teased things to look out for during Saturday's spring game.

Senior distance runner for JMU track and field, Miranda Stanhope, has found her role as a leader in her collegiate career. Stanhope is the program record holder for the 10,000m, which she broke on March 29 during the Raleigh Relays. Her coaches and teammates have shared how they view her as a leader how her passion for running helps them.

After Richmond senior center fielder Aaron Whitley scored a home run on the first pitch of the day, JMU scored 10 consecutive runs and eventually won the game 14-4. JMU 20-12 (6-6) will play a three-game series at Old Dominion, starting on Friday at 6 p.m., while Richmond 13-20 (3-3) will head home to start a series against George Washington on the same day at 2 p.m.

JMU women's tennis lost to Sun Belt leaders ODU 11-5 (7-0) on Saturday 7-0. The Dukes will return to the Hillside courts on Saturday against Coastal Carolina 12-6 (6-2)  and then will follow that match with Senior Day on Sunday against Georgia Southern. 

In the VertKlasse Meeting two JMU athletes set personal bests and top-10 program records. Senior pole vaulter Erica Moolman finished with a height of 3.89m, while freshman Maddie Moles finished with a height of 3.64m. Next, the Dukes will host the JMU Invite on Saturday at 10 a.m.
