In the VertKlasse Meeting two JMU athletes set personal bests and top-10 program records. Senior pole vaulter Erica Moolman finished with a height of 3.89m, while freshman Maddie Moles finished with a height of 3.64m. Next, the Dukes will host the JMU Invite on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Junior sprinter/hurdler Jordyn Henderson broke two JMU program records during the indoor track season in the 60-meter hurdles and dash, and said she’s far from satisfied as she hopes to break more with the outdoor season around the corner. Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Delthea Quarles said she’s seen Henderson grow both on and off the track this year. 

JMU track and field finished the VMI Winter relays on Saturday with three event titles and personal bests from junior thrower Jaiden Martellucci, junior sprinter Jordyn Henderson and junior sprinter Kaia Putman. The Dukes compete in their final meet before the Sun Belt Indoor Conference Championships next weekend at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational. 

JMU Sports Network will be utilizing a brand new control room inside the Atlantic Union Bank Center (AUBC) for their broadcasts this year. The control room will not only improve the quality of broadcasts, but provide students with opportunities to use top of the industry equipment.

JMU track and field competed in two meets Feb. 10-11: the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston and the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational in Lynchburg, Virginia. Dukes' junior distance runner Miranda Stanhope highlighted JMU's performances during the weekend, setting the program record in the 5000m at 16:14 during day one of the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. 

 

JMU track and field competed in the VMI Winter Classic from Jan. 27-28 and racked up multiple record-breaking results, namely from senior pole vaulter Rachel Lloyd and freshman sprinter Asia Powell. The Dukes next compete back in Lexington, Virginia, at the VMI Winter Relays on Feb. 3.

JMU recently hired Anthony Pass as its next associate athletic director for integrated health and sports performance, who started on the job Nov. 28, replacing Tom Kuster, who died in May. Sports Editor Grant Johnson sat down with Pass a few weeks into his new role to get a feel for his plans to bolster student-athlete mental health and well-being at JMU on the heels of the pandemic and not eight months removed from the death of JMU softball player Lauren Bernett.
