Ashley Williams, a rising junior and Williamsburg native, died around 1 a.m. Friday morning in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, after colliding with a Jeep. She was 20 years old.

According to a press release from the town’s police department, “neither speed nor alcohol” were factors for the driver. The release stated that Williams ran onto the highway and directly into the vehicle’s path. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Williams’ loved ones announced her death on social media, with commenters sharing condolences. “Beautiful,” “loving” and “sweet” were popular descriptors of Williams. During her time at JMU, Williams was a Kappa Alpha Theta sorority member.
