Chips and scratches in paint, water does not flow down the front, only the sides

First off this is a beautiful fountain and I fell in love with it... but that was short lived. There were chips and scratches on the front, more scratches on the die and it was scratched on the base. Secondly the water flow did not flow down the front of the fountain, only the sides. Yes the fountain was level, the only way it would partially flow down the front was to tip the fountain forward, but this messes with the pump. I bet some fountains are perfect but I got a bad one. Am returning and not taking a chance on another.

I purchased this fountain (in green) intending to use it outside my front door in an alcove. It looks ok there, especially at night when the LED lights are on, but overall I wish I had picked a different one for several reasons, the biggest of which is the sound.

A previous reviewer mentioned this (unfortunately I did not heed this warning) but the water sound is not very natural because it is amplified by the hollow ceramic of the fountain, making it sound a little like a toilet running rather than a burbling stream. I thought maybe turning the water flow down a bit might help this, but while the pump output can be adjusted, the adjustment doesn't seem to make much of a difference. I've turned it both ways and it seems to put out about the same water flow no matter how it is set.

There is no on/off switch, you just have to unplug it, so I put it on a timer. When you turn it on, it splashes water out the front until the flow routes down the front of the fountain. For this reason, I do not see this being used indoors.

The power cord is only 6 feet long. There is no outlet within 6 feet of where I wanted this, especially since I cannot run the cord across the alcove; it has to be routed around the edges to avoid a trip hazard. A sticker on the back of the power supply specifically states it needs to be plugged directly into a power outlet upright, not into an extension cord; not sure why but the power supply definitely gets pretty hot. The connector between the pump and the power supply is a 2 prong round connector that I have never seen before not having had a fountain or pond before this one. This initially prevented me from placing it where I intended. Reaching out to Alpine got me a terse reply that they don't sell an extension cord, they just use the cord that came with it (and considering other reviewers have commented about Alpine's good customer service, this was disappointing.) However, after some research I found an extension cord specifically designed for a water feature pump with an LED that connects between the pump and the power supply, and that has worked fine so far. It is available on Amazon, but of course is an additional purchase.

The cutout to access the inside of the fountain where the pump goes is pretty small and I had trouble sticking my arm in there far enough to make sure the pump was sitting with the suction cups on the feet on the bottom. It also makes it difficult to see the water level.

UPDATE: I ended up relegating this to my back patio where the listening audience is smaller and getting a different type of fountain for out front where I had it. Not that I wanted to spend extra but I was embarrassed by the sound that greeted front door guests.

Two Things You Need To Know

First, we got the red fountain. It is beautiful, very sturdy, arrived well-packed, easy set up. Keep it mind, it is very heavy. The pump flow is easy to control. We have it on the lowest setting, and we have it on our back screened-on porch, resting on the wooden floor--next to the door to our kitchen. There is no splashing. It looks great, especially with the lights at night. Also, it SOUNDS great. We wanted the sound of splashing water on our porch, and we are very happy with it.
Second, the customer service of the Alpine corporation is next to none. We experienced a problem with our pump--the connection to the pump wire was assembled backwards, and the supply tub to the top of the fountain fell off. A disappointment, but it happens. We contacted their customer service, which is easy, and they corrected the problem promptly and efficiently and politely. We only wish that automobile and appliance companies were as consumer-oriented.
I would be happy to do business with this company anytime, both for the quality of their product and the quality of their service.

Much bigger than I thought. The color is great. We hooked up the pump and it started leaking. After turning on and off and adjusting the pump several times we noticed that the fountain is slanted so the water was coming out of the side. We now need something to place on the bottom so it is level. I would not use in the house now as planned due to fear of water damage. Disappointed overall and will access for a week and consider returning.
