Nearly 50 Crick staff marched in the #PrideInLondon Parade the weekend before last under the wider Proud Science Alliance banner. Thanks to everyone who joined us in celebrating and supporting our diverse LGBTQIA+ community! And a huge thanks to The Academy of Medical Sciences for inviting all our attendees to the pre-march brunch. We hope to see everyone again in a few weeks at Trans+ Pride on 27 July!

We are a biomedical discovery institute breaking down barriers between disciplines.
About us
The Crick is a distinctive biomedical research institute. We’re committed to advancing, promoting, and sharing understanding of human health and disease. We do that by attracting talented and ambitious people from all disciplines and backgrounds and giving them the support and freedom they need to succeed. Inside the Crick, you’ll discover scientists working to stretch the very limits of what we know about how life works. Their research holds the key to answering fundamental questions about human health and disease. Our bold and innovative research projects bring together scientists and technicians from all disciplines in the pursuit of discovery without boundaries. With the support of our partners, we’re bridging the gap between discovery and application to help change lives for the better. And through our dynamic structure, we’re able to develop the science leaders of tomorrow. That’s our bold idea, tell us yours. Cover image taken at the Crick by Thomas Angus, Imperial College London.

We are delighted to announce that Professor Edith Heard has been appointed as our new director and chief executive. Edith, who is currently director-general at EMBL, will succeed Paul Nurse in leading the Crick from the summer of 2025. We are lucky that Paul will continue his laboratory and research at the Crick after stepping down as director and chief executive. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e38A-P7p

Crick researchers have mapped the effects of all potential changes in a specific tumour-suppressing gene. This could help clinicians work out which patients are more at risk of developing kidney cancer or how responsive they’ll be to treatment. https://lnkd.in/e9UDJF8v

Stem cell-based embryo models are biological structures that mimic aspects of early human development. A group including the Crick’s Naomi Moris has put together the first set of UK guidelines for generating and using these models in research. The guidelines were developed by a group of researchers, lawyers and ethicists, and incorporated public feedback through a public dialogue that was held alongside the project. Read the full document and find out more about the guidelines on our website ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/ezpXGdvW

An interesting piece from BBC Future exploring the ‘gene deserts’ that are increasingly being linked to diseases – including the recent discovery of a new biological pathway that drives inflammatory bowel disease from Crick, UCL and Imperial College London researchers https://lnkd.in/gbBydNGn
