Good stuff coming from the University of Pittsburgh showing us the continued progress in our collective fight to provide the best care possible for patients with cancer. Cancer rehabilitation specialists (PTs, OTs, SLPs, etc) play such a pivotal role in providing the best standard of care. That’s our mission at ReVital Cancer Rehabilitation. #together #optimal #patientcare #cancerrehab #research #oncology
A recent study from the University of Pittsburgh reveals how adoptive therapy–the transfer of a defined population of tumor-infiltrating-lymphocytes (TIL) from patients' own tumors–could revolutionize cancer treatments. Combination therapy in cancer Reposting Stephen Fawell "Why use combination therapy in cancer? Monotherapy – killing cancer cells with a single pharmaceutical agent – plays a key role in cancer treatment, bringing benefit to many patients. However, there’s more we can do to tackle challenges that persist in the clinic, such as drug resistance and unwanted side effects of treatment. Combining two or more agents to target aspects of cancer growth and survival has emerged as a key opportunity for driving progress – by developing treatment regimens which target independent molecular pathways, cancer combination therapy aims to: Address complexity: Each tumour is unique in its genetic, epigenetic and proteomic detail, and cells within a single tumour are heterogeneous and often respond to treatment differently. Cancer combination therapies that target subsets of cancer cells, offer a nuanced approach to targeting complex tumour biology. Overcome resistance: A strategic combination of medicines can hinder the tumours’ ability to develop resistance, and potentially enhance patient outcomes. Enhance treatment response: Combination therapy has the potential to enhance cancer cell death, and lead to deeper and more durable responses compared to monotherapy."
I’m delighted to share with you an article I’ve developed alongside Jay (Jerome) Mettetal exploring recent advances in the field of combination therapy and what this means for patients living with cancer. New research into combination therapy is revolutionizing the way we think about cancer treatment and aims to address complexity, overcome resistance and enhance treatment response. At AstraZeneca, we have a unique approach to combination therapy, with a diverse portfolio designed to attack cancer from multiple angles. Transformational technologies such as multi-omics, artificial intelligence and computational pathology are helping us to accelerate the development of these novel treatment combinations.
