It will also explore the following questions: - What multiple truths do companies need to weigh to navigate the sustainability transformation successfully? - Which external and internal barriers inhibit company action on sustainability and how can they be overcome in ways that create commercial value? - How can companies apply the lessons of the digital transformation to the disruption caused by the ongoing sustainability shift?   - How have companies who have tested Catching the Wave’s sustainable transformation framework benefited from its guidance? Sabine Hoefnagel, Global Leader of Sustainability and Risk at ERM, and James Gomme, Director of Education and Knowledge Management at WBCSD, will moderate the discussion and be joined by speakers from companies who helped test Catching the Wave’s sustainable transformation framework. #Sustainability #SustainabilityTransformation

  • All companies are learning as they go with the sustainability transformation, so no off-the-shelf blueprint for action exists. The framework in the Catching the Wave report draws on the real perspectives of more than 130 business and sustainability executives. It reflects the best available practical knowledge and experiences of what works for companies in advanced stages of integrating sustainability and how they translate this into commercial success, operational efficiency, and resilience. The framework offers practical guidance in five focus areas: leadership and governance, strategy and planning, progress and commercialization, networks and engagement, and continuity and tenacity. We call these categories: -Face It, -Map It, -Do It, -Shape It, -Connect It. Companies must continuously invest in, revisit, calibrate, and align them. Different companies are at different stages or will choose different entry points. No matter where they begin, however, companies must eventually take and link actions in all five areas to successfully absorb sustainability into their organizational fabric,    Download the Catching the Wave report here: https://lnkd.in/dSrXc6hG #SustainabilityTransformation #Sustainability

  • This London Climate Action Week, we are excited to announce the launch of a new guide designed to help companies and financial institutions invest in high-integrity Natural Climate Solutions (NCS).   ERM, WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development, Natural Climate Solutions Alliance (NCSA), and Forest Investor Club (FIC) have developed this report to highlight the climate, financial, environmental, and social benefits of NCS projects and help encourage the flow of private capital into these solutions.   The guide provides the most comprehensive guidance to date and outlines the key stages of the NCS investment process, including how to identify high-integrity NCS projects, conduct thorough due diligence, and implement effective investment strategies, all with the goal of de-mystifying and simplifying the NCS investment process.   In addition to carbon, the guide explains the wider environmental, financial, social, and reputational benefits of NCS investments and how an NCS strategy can be aligned with the individual investor’s business case.  ERM’s Head of Carbon Markets Alexander Cox explains why and how companies should invest in NCS in the video below. Read the full report for more details on investing in NCS projects for the VCM. https://lnkd.in/dMC4vXW8 #CarbonMarkets #VoluntaryCarbonMarket #LondonClimateActionWeek   Alexander Cox, Aiste Brackley, Patrice DATCHANAMOURTY, Justin Nelson, Katie Langemeier, Patrick Colas, Carly Sibilia, Erika Anderson, Oliver Forster, Giulia Carbone, Benjamin Cohen

  • We are excited to launch the GlobeScan / ERM Sustainability Institute Leaders Survey that captures the perspectives of hundreds of sustainability experts worldwide on the priorities and forces shaping the sustainable development agenda. While climate continues to be identified as the most important sustainability challenge, new factors influence respondents' responses to the survey. Experts agree that the expansion of sustainability-related legislation and regulation and the creation and uptake of frameworks and standards are the most positive developments in the sustainability landscape over the past year. Explore key learnings from the survey here: https://lnkd.in/ddfKKqw4 #Sustainability #SustainabilityLeadership #Climate

  • Companies that think the sustainability transformation is mainly a compliance issue and little other action is needed should think again. The sustainability shift significantly affects how companies operate, how supply chains are shaped, and what consumers want and expect. Many sustainability-linked markets, like EVs, sustainable food, energy efficiency devices, and critical minerals, will pass the trillion-dollar mark within ten years, and many others are about to take off. Pressure from investors, stakeholders, regulators, and incentives encouraging sustainability investment will likely continue ramping up, creating fresh commercial opportunities and challenges.  The report Catching the Wave, which we created together with WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development, contains a practical framework synthesizing the insights, successes, and observations of 130 business and sustainability leaders. This framework offers a set of immediate actions to help identify and overcome barriers to change, expose material risks, capture new value, and future-proof the enterprise.    Download the report here: https://lnkd.in/d52MVxnS #Sustainability #SustainabilityTransformation

  • When discussing responsible mining of critical minerals, we recommend that companies borrow from sustainability disclosures and commence with good risk management processes such as a focused, asset-level materiality assessment. Through this assessment, companies can identify key stakeholders and their associated needs and expectations. From this understanding, they can make strategic and informed choices regarding which responsible mining frameworks they will utilize. Lastly, companies can identify where there is and is not commonality among initiatives and focus their resources on the actions most important to getting the most value from them. • In an era where critical mineral supplies need to be rapidly scaled, stakeholders across the mining and metals value chain are demanding ESG accountability and transparency. In response, companies are turning to responsible mining initiatives to meet stakeholder expectations and ensure responsible operations.    However, implementation and assurance challenges complicate adoption. Our new article explores these challenges and offers a set of recommended actions to help companies overcome them, build trust, demonstrate performance, and attract investment. • Companies should neither underestimate nor get overwhelmed by the waves of disruption the sustainability shift brings now and in the future. Systemic transformations happen when major socio-economic trends and breakthrough innovations amplify each other, simultaneously triggering waves of disruption at many levels. Systemic shifts are tough to navigate but follow similar patterns, and most organizations have been through them before. The report Catching the Wave, which we've co-authored with WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development, lays out the lessons that can be drawn from past disruptions, the multiple truths companies must confront, and the barriers holding companies back. It also contains a practical framework - synthesizing the insights, successes, and observations of 130 business and sustainability leaders – offering a set of immediate actions to help identify and overcome barriers to change, expose material risks, capture new value, and future-proof the enterprise.
