100 years of sport at Selfridges As we welcome a summer of sport and celebrate Olympics, Euros and Wimbledon-fever, we’ve taken a moment to look back at the history of sport at Selfridges. Selfridges shoppers have been entertained by sporting experiences since the early 1900s, with the pleasure gardens crazy golf course in 1920, a rooftop ice rink in 1924, and even the installation of a ‘Sportapool’ - a portable swimming bath - on the roof of #SelfridgesLondon in 1930. Did you know we used to host an Annual Sports Meeting, which in 1943 included an “ankle-judging competition”? Since then, we’ve partnered with world-leading sports brands and gyms on sporting experiences for our customers to immerse themselves in, and opened our world-famous Skate Bowl that still sits proudly in Selfridges London today.
