The outcome of this assignment was to craft a design publication that features a theme. It was the first time that I got the opportunity to craft a magazine. The theme I covered was the LGBTQ+ community. Included is a feature about the LGBTQ+ community and I enjoyed experimenting with different colour palettes, typographic styles and layouts, and I am pleased with the visually appealing product that is true to my style. #graphicdesign #editorialdesign

I am an LGBTQ+ ally because it's important to me that everyone, regardless of gender, or sexual orientation, feels safe, respected, and celebrated for who they are. Diversity and Inclusion are not just buzzwords; they're fundamental values we should all champion. What you can do this month to be a better ally: 🌈 Take time to educate yourself on historical challenges and societal impact of the LGBTQ+ community. Understanding hardships and triumphs is crucial to effective allyship. 🌈 Be visible, show your support openly by attending Pride events in your local area or supporting a local LGBTQ+ owned business. Not just in June, but all year round. 🌈 Support an LGBTQ+ Organization with a donation or fundraiser. Egale is an organization in Canada with a mission to: "improve the lives of 2SLGBTQI people in Canada and to enhance the global response to 2SLGBTQI issues." 🌈Amplify LGBTQ+ voices, share a post on your social media, share art or activism, share resources like books and podcasts, be an advocate for their rights and visibility. An ally's role is to amplify, not overshadow.

🌈 As Pride Month is over, I want to reflect on the significance of this important celebration and discuss how companies can actively support the LGBTQ+ community. Pride Month serves as an opportunity for us to promote inclusivity, diversity, and acceptance within our workplaces.   It is crucial for companies to recognize the value of fostering an environment where all employees, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, can feel safe, respected, and supported. Here are a few actionable steps that organizations can take to promote inclusivity and support their #LGBTQ+ employees throughout the year:   1️. Education and Awareness: Offer comprehensive training programs to increase awareness and understanding of LGBTQ+ issues, including pronoun usage, #allyship, and unconscious biases. This empowers employees to create a more inclusive environment and build a strong foundation of respect and empathy.    2️ Inclusive Policies and Benefits: ensure policies are inclusive. This includes non-discrimination policies, equal opportunity employment statements, and comprehensive healthcare coverage that addresses the specific needs of LGBTQ+ individuals.   3. Business Resource Groups (BRGs): These groups provide a platform for networking, mentorship, and advocacy, creating a sense of community and fostering a culture of belonging within the organization.   4️. External Engagement: Actively participate in Pride events and LGBTQ+ community initiatives. Be an ally. Be Kind. We ALL have one thing in common, we are all human beings first. Yet, so many different people continue to experience discrimination for a multitude of reasons. Financial wellness in the LBGTQ+ community face unique challenges and setbacks-- we all deserve to have access to financial products and services in an equitable environment. The 2024 LGBTQ+ Financial Wellness Report's key findings are a rude awakening that there is much work to be done for better financial inclusion. *Roughly half (48.15) of LGBTQ+ adults say they are financially unwell, compared to one-quarter (25.7%) of the general public. Both BIPOC and younger (age 18-24) LGBTQ+ adults are even more likely to say they are financially unwell. *Three in ten (30.8%) LGBTQ+ adults say they have experienced discrimination while accessing financial services *Roughly half (48.15) of LGBTQ+ adults say they are financially unwell, compared to one-quarter (25.7%) of the general public. *Nearly 60% (59.7%) of LGTBQ+ adults have annual household incomes below $75,000. "The data underscore the need for our economic empowerment programs, especially for younger BIPOC LGBTQ+ folks. I hope the data are a call to action for organizations serving our community. As we celebrate Pride, let us also remember the importance of allyship. Being an ally means supporting and standing up for the rights of those who identify as LGBTQ+. It means creating safe spaces at work and in our communities where everyone can be their authentic selves. It requires constant learning, understanding, and committing to equality and justice. A time to celebrate with, advocate for, listen to and show absolute support of our wonderfully diverse LGBTI+ communities and reflect on how we can all be the change we want to see in the world. We've taken some decent strides towards equality in recent years. That being said, we still live in a world where Faith-based schools can LEGALLY expel and sack LGBTQ students and teachers respectively; where elite sportspeople in major codes don't feel safe being 'out'; and where sickening violence and displays of hatred can still bubble to the surface as they did just a few short months ago in Melbourne and Sydney... there is still a very long way for us to go. It is great to see all the progressive organisations here on LinkedIn making pride pledges, implementing inclusion programs, rainbowing their logos, encouraging the use of gender neutral language and respecting each other's pronouns. Descrimination in (almost...) all its forms is illegal...hopefully the Attorney General's review of Faith-based schools will bear fruit... but laws are the effect, not the cause of social change. The cause can start with a simple little thing like rainbowing your logo, engaging in a conversation and making your employees and colleagues feel comfortable to bring their whole selves to work. #diversityequityandinclusion #prideatwork #prideisnotjustforamonth
