We’re excited to share that the Migration Summit 2024 session, Strengthening Businesses: The Opportunities of Impact Sourcing, organised by Na'amal, is now available. In this session, our moderator, Drew Gardiner (International Labour Organization), led us through an exploration of the Na’amal Agency, an initiative of Na'amal. We examined how a comprehensive approach—from training to employment—has successfully generated sustainable l income and opportunities for displaced individuals. We heard from the Na'amal team (Lorraine Charles , Abdi Ambari and Matthew Lloyd), partner EqualReach (Giselle Gonzales) and the talent themselves (Susan Achiech, Mikal Afewerki). The session explored the benefits and challenges of this model and discussed its potential for scaling and broader application. Check out the session and learn about how the Na'amal Agency and EqualReach are testing an innovative model for securing remote, project-based work for displaced talent and matching them with suitable projects. "The Global North is adept at dictating and crafting the “proper” human rights practices, such as in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and hosting academic and political discussions on global issues at high level conferences at the United Nations in Geneva and New York City. However, they rarely enforce these practices unless there is gain or benefit for them in doing so." stated Daniela Alba in her blog post for the Migration Summit. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eiyyxBAx At Na'amal we often speak about decolonizing out thoughts and actions. We challenge you all to do the same!
"I have spent most of my life trying to rationalize to others why I and others like myself deserve a chance. Why should I have to do that? If the circumstances that led me to overachieve just to gain the bare minimum come from a colonial system based on eugenics, then why can we not also focus on destroying these narratives, perceptions, and standards for the forcibly displaced individuals entering the workforce in an increasingly globalized world." stated Daniela Alba, while reflecting on her journey of #displacement. We're honored to present a thought-provoking blog post by Daniela Alba, originally from #Bogota, #Colombia, and currently working in the fundraising and communications department of the Jesuit Refugee Service in #Rome, #Italy. In her blog, "Navigating Privilege: Redefining Labor in the Diaspora," Daniela reflects on her journey and challenges the narratives surrounding displaced individuals. She explores the systemic barriers the displaced individuals face, and emphasizes the need for creating dignified pathways for their integration into the workforce.
