👏 We’re pleased to announce yet another member of the fire engineering team, Johan Askman, who has recently achieved Chartered Engineer status through the Institute of Fire Engineers. 👏 Johan joined us in January 2017 as a Fire Engineer, when he relocated from Sweden to support the expanding London Fire Engineering team, of which he is now the Team Leader. Since Johan took over as Team Leader in September 2019, the London Fire Engineering team has grown from 12 to 22 people and delivered some truly exceptional projects along the way. Johan’s experience and leadership has been key in many of these projects, with a particular focus on large mixed-use developments. This takes the total number of Chartered Engineers and Surveyors in the Hoare Lea Fire Engineering Group to 11. A number which we hope will soon increase. We provide extensive support and mentoring to allow staff to achieve Chartered Engineer status, which allows individuals to demonstrate their wide and extensive knowledge in the field of fire engineering. Fantastic news! We won, not once, but three times last night at the ANC Acoustics Awards 2024. The projects were as follows: ✳ Cambridge House - winner of the Vibration Prediction and Control Award. ✳ CBSO Shireland – winner of the Education and Office Buildings Award. ✳ The Life and Mind Building (LaMB) – winner of the Innovation Award. A very big congratulations to Robert Iafrati, Michael Whitcroft and Martin McNulty and a thank you for their efforts in preparing both the submissions and short presentations. This success reinforces our position as leaders in the field of acoustics consultancy. It was a pleasure to be part of the Tall Buildings Conference panel discussion with Tina John, Angie Jim Osman and Eszter A Gulacsy, with excellent facilitation by Brendan Geraghty. There is a case for building tall... it creates dense development, is land efficient and makes infrastructure effective... but we also need to consider the implications for embodied carbon, adaptation and resilience. Specifying low carbon materials and designing for disassembly can help make tall construction more sustainable. As an example, Hoare Lea is working with Landsec on the Timber Square building, which includes a 15-storey lightweight timber (CLT) floor construction. #TallBuildingsConference #CircularEconomy #TimberSquare #ClimateResilience
