🌐 Demo models at Trade Shows CDM Stravitec - Making your world a quieter place, a producer of noise and vibration isolation systems, asked us if we could make a demo model of their new products. The actual product is very heavy and very unpractical to use as at trade fairs. However, providing your prospects with a physical demo model always adds so much more to the story. ✨ By using 3D printing and our extensive knowledge of post-processing techniques, we were able to create a realistic and much lighter 1:1 replica of the complete installation. Even the functionality of the installation is preserved by 3D printing functional springs! On top of that, we also made cut-out sections that can be removed to provide more insight into the mechanisms. Facing a similar problem? Our Acoustics team also received two further awards, one project related to a very cool clay pigeon shooting grounds and the other dealt with some relatively typical issues for conversion projects. The shooting grounds received a "highly commended" award due to the depth and thoroughness of the investigation, along with the clever acoustic design that was proposed. The conversion project may well have seemed quite straightforward at the first look, but it was the way that the problem of a noisy condenser unit nearby was dealt with, that the judging panel thought was worthy of a "commended" award. Not only effective from a noise point of view, but also a sustainable solution. We introduce a new series of short articles showing how acousticians, consultants, design engineers, installation companies and other professionals realize challenging projects around the world with the help of AFMG software solutions. We are working on gradually bringing the articles online, demonstrating different edges of our products or practical benefits of their combinations. The first application example showcases the key points of an acoustic design aiming to provide a high level of speech intelligibility in the auditorium of the Fondazione MAST, the cultural institution in Bologna, Italy. The acoustic part of the project was carried out by the acoustic consultancy “Studio Ponteggia” which faced particular challenges due to the relatively large volume of the auditorium, the reflective ceiling and the reflective leather seats. After evaluation, simulation and decision making, the appropriate sound system was designed and adjusted with AFMG FIRmaker beam-shaping technology, as well as the STI then automatically optimised in EASE with regard to room acoustics, noise level, and signal masking. It was nice to see the exceptional accuracy of the results confirmed by on-site measurements. Recently, Max Cyril, our Perth Acoustic Section Manager, joined a virtual panel discussion focusing on "Sound Solutions for Next-Generation Learning Spaces".
