We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded the Paragon Skills Childcare Large Employer of the Year for the second year running! The awards recognise and reward organisations for their commitment to the training and development of learners. Debbie and Angharad from our Apprenticeship Programme accepted the award from Paragon Skills, who are one of our apprenticeships providers. "I'm just so honoured that we've won for the second year in a row. The partnership we have is excellent and they are one of our biggest suppliers for apprenticeships. This accolade has just proven the quality of care we deliver and the quality of support that Paragon Skills deliver to us as well." - Debbie, Apprenticeships and Qualifications Officer A big congratulations to Debbie, Angharad and the Learning and Development Team on this amazing win! #Apprenticeships #ParagonSkills

Action for Children is proud to be partnering with Virgin Media O2 and Internet Matters Ltd as part of their #FindTheRightWords campaign. An initiative that empowers parents and carers to feel confident having conversations with their children about staying safe online. ❗ New research reveals less than half of parents (42%) surveyed* speak to their children about how to stay safe online, and almost half (48%) of those surveyed said they want more support. To help parents and carers of children and young people, we’ve partnered with Virgin Media O2 and Internet Matters to create a series of free guides to help families stay safe online. The articles will be available on Parent Talk, our free online advice hub, starting with “How can I help my teenager stay safe online?”: https://bit.ly/3zTdDM8 * New Research from Virgin Media O2 and Internet Matters.

We're pleased to have been invited to a Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) roundtable to discuss the government's forthcoming #ChildPoverty strategy. Action for Children CEO, Paul Carberry, met with Liz Kendall, alongside other leading organisations including Barnardo's and Save the Children UK.

Chief Executive at Action for Children

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending a Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Child Poverty Roundtable hosted by the Secretary of State for Work & Pensions, Liz Kendall MP, along with sector colleagues from Barnardo's Save the Children UK and others. We had a refreshingly open and honest conversation about our priorities for action and what we wanted to see in the government’s forthcoming child poverty strategy.   At Action for Children, we want to see three things: 1. Help for families in poverty to break down work barriers. We know that work does not offer a reliable route out of poverty, and many of the families and young people we support face complex barriers to employment. 2. Investment in social security. This means scrapping the two-child limit policy immediately and increasing the child element of Universal Credit by at least £15 a week.  3. A commitment to introduce a legal duty on local authorities to provide early help for families before they reach crisis, which must be backed by significant funding.   I hope we can continue to work with the government on its child poverty strategy and give every child in the UK the best start in life.   https://lnkd.in/ebQePe7u #childpoverty #CharityCEOs #twochildlimit

Celebrate World Youth Skills Day with us! 🌟 Meet Angharad (right), one of the amazing young people who has thrived through Action for Children's Skills for Living programme in North Wales. Thanks to her Personal Advisor, Angharad got involved with us and her journey has been nothing short of inspiring. Here's what she shared about her experience: "Action for Children helped me with multiple things in my life – mental health, finances and my confidence. They also supported me in applying to be a Young Person on the Wales Committee which I am still doing and also to become a Young Ambassador, which I did for 7 years." Now, Angharad is an Apprentice Learning and Development Administrator. She says she's gained new skills and her confidence has grown in the role, thanks to her manager Debbie (left). "We get along well which always helps, we are able to lean on each other and she has given me so much confidence to do certain tasks alone. She's always there when I need her, whether that’s for work or personal reasons. I'm lucky to have someone like Debbie as my manager." "The advice I would give to other people thinking about doing an apprenticeship is to just go for it! It’s an amazing opportunity to learn whilst working. It’s the best thing I have done, and I will always recommend it to anyone who asks." Angharad’s story highlights the power of support, mentorship, and the opportunities that apprenticeships offer. On this World Youth Skills Day, let's celebrate the achievements of young people like Angharad ❤️ #WorldYouthSkillsDay #YouthEmpowerment

We’re proud to highlight the incredible work of Amanda and the team at Haydock Short Breaks in Ealing, West London. They provide overnight stays for young people aged 8 to 18 with physical and learning disabilities, helping them build independence while giving their families a much-needed break. “Parents are always telling us how much their kids love coming to Haydock. One boy who ran straight over to give me a big hug, saying ‘I love you. I missed you,’ and his mum said that he’d gone to school that morning with his suitcase, so looking forward to his stay-over.” - Amanda Haydock, a purpose-built home in Ealing, West London, is a safe haven where the young people can learn new skills, make friends, and enjoy time away from home. Thank you Amanda and the whole team at Haydock for your dedication and for making a difference to so many lives! ❤️ #SupportForFamilies #DisabilitySupport
