NEW DELHI: India faced a sudden setback as both set Virat Kohli and in-form Suryakumar Yadav were dismissed within three balls by Bangladesh's Tanzim Hasan Sakib during the Super Eight match of the T20 World Cup at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Saturday.
The sequence of the double dismissal unfolded in the ninth over of India’s innings when Tanzim Hasan, who has been Bangladesh’s standout bowler in the tournament, was handed the ball.

On his very first delivery of the over, Tanzim Hasan struck gold. Virat Kohli, who was looking good at 37 off 28 balls, was bowled out. As Kohli attempted to drive the ball straight but was deceived by the length and pace. The ball curved in late and hit the middle stump, ending Kohli's promising innings abruptly.
As Kohli walked back, swashbuckling Suryakumar, known for his aggressive style, came to the crease and wasted no time making an impact. On the very next ball, he launched a short delivery over the fine leg fence for a six, getting off the mark with a maximum. The crowd erupted in cheers, hoping for a momentum shift.
However, the excitement was short-lived. On the third ball of the over, Sakib had his revenge. Surya, attempting another aggressive shot, mistimed his pull and was caught behind by the keeper, bringing an end to his brief stint at the crease. The quick dismissals of two key players left India reeling and gave Bangladesh a significant advantage.

Earlier, skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto won the coin toss and opted to bowl first, a decision that seemed justified as Bangladesh sought to leverage early breakthroughs.
The match is crucial for both teams. India, having won their first Super Eight match against Afghanistan, are placed second in Group 1 with two points, trailing Australia on net run rate.
In contrast, Bangladesh, after losing their first game to the 2021 champions, are placed fourth, making the match a must-win to keep their hopes alive in the tournament.
