INDIA bloc delegation meets Manipur governor, CM over ongoing violence
NEW DELHI: 20 members of INDIA bloc, a delegation of 10 political parties, met Manipur governor Anusuiya Uikey on Wednesday, after visiting chief minister N Biren Singh in Imphal. They requested governmental measures to halt the ongoing violence in the state.
The coalition of 10 parties included the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee; Janata Dal (United), All India Forward Bloc, Nationalist Congress Party (SP), All India Trinamool Congress, Manipur Pradesh, Shiv Sena (UBT), Revolutionary Socialist Party, Manipur State Council, Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Aam Aadmi Party.

Manipur Congress president Keisham Meghachandra Singh said after meeting the governor, "We discussed the recent incident of Jiribam. The Governor was very serious about the matter. She said that she would discuss the matter with the central team."
CPI leader M. Nara Singh said that their meeting was focused on reports of violence emerging from Jiribam. "Our meeting with the Governor was to apprise of the present situation in Jiribam and elsewhere and the possible solution that can be brought at the earliest," he said.

Trouble erupted in Jiribam district on June 6 following the alleged killing of a 59-year-old man by unidentified miscreants. In response, angry residents set an abandoned building on fire. The violence quickly escalated, with several houses belonging to both Meitei and Kuki communities being burnt by unknown individuals. Miscreants also targeted and burned down two police pickets and a forest beat office.

On June 10, the advance security team of Manipur CM N Biren Singh was ambushed at Sinam village near Kotlen in Kangpokpi district on NH-37 (Jiribam Road) by suspected militants. The ambush resulted in injuries to a Manipur Police personnel and a civil driver. During subsequent search operations in Sinam village, police teams recovered several empty bullet cases and destroyed illegal temporary hideouts and bunkers suspected to have been used by the militants.
