SHILLONG: A huge quantity of sugar was seized from the Rongra bordering area in the South Garo Hills district of the state on Sunday.
“Based on specific information, BSF troops along with Meghalaya Police conducted a joint operation near the India-Bangladesh border. During the operation, more than 19,000kg of sugar was recovered from an abandoned house near the international border,” a spokesperson for the Meghalaya Frontier HQ of the BSF here said on Sunday.
The seized sugar was handed over to the Rongra police station, the BSF said.
Earlier on June 14, BSF had seized a large quantity of medicines and mobile phone displays worth more than Rs 73 lakh, which were meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh, in East Khasi Hills district.
