AIZAWL: Union home minister Amit Shah has promised CM Lalduhoma that the Centre will provide humanitarian assistance for the refugees taking shelter in Mizoram, according to an official statement issued on Friday.
It said Lalduhoma met Shah at his official residence in Delhi on Thursday evening and the two leaders discussed several issues. It was, however, not mentioned whether the humanitarian assistance will be for refugees from Myanmar or Bangladesh or whether it will be for both.
It must be noted that the Centre is yet to provide humanitarian aid in any form for the internally displaced persons of Manipur taking shelter in Mizoram for a year following the ethnic strife in the neighbouring state.
Shah also assured Lalduhoma that the Assam Rifles battalion will definitely be shifted from the heart of Aizawl city to the proposed new battalion HQ at Zokhawsang. "A decision has been made in this regard and the Assam Rifles will be shifted to the new place accordingly," the Union home minister was quoted as saying in the official statement.
The CM also submitted a memorandum to the Centre about the devastation caused by Cyclone Remal in the state to which Shah said a team from the Centre will be sent to conduct verification and financial assistance will be provided after the team submits its report.
Shah promised the CM that he will visit Mizoram during August, the statement said.
Lalduhoma was in Delhi for the all finance ministers' meeting and also to call on the Union ministers in the newly formed govt at the Centre. He was accompanied by newly elected member of Lok Sabha from the state, Richard Vanlalhmangaiha, secretary to CM, Vanlaldina Fanai, and OSD to CM, Jonathan Lalremruata.
