NEW DELHI: Six individuals, including a doctor based in Delhi, have been taken into custody for their alleged involvement in an organ transplant racket that spans across Bangladesh and the Delhi-NCR region, according to police officials on Tuesday.
The Delhi Police Crime Branch had been investigating the case for two months, acting on a tip-off. Officials stated that the majority of the donors and recipients are Bangladeshi citizens who are brought to India using fake documents for the surgeries.

The female doctor, currently employed as a kidney transplant surgeon at a reputable hospital in southeast Delhi, is suspected of being involved in surgeries performed on Bangladeshi patients between 2021 and 2023. These surgeries were allegedly conducted at a private hospital in Noida, where she worked as a visiting consultant.
Among the arrested individuals are an assistant to the doctor and four others, three of whom are Bangladeshi nationals. The arrests were made over the course of the last two weeks.
