    I spent my lunch hour every other week with two third-graders to help them reach the goal of grade-level literacy and passing scores on the English portion of the Indiana state test. A student who cannot read at grade level by third grade is four times more likely to drop out of school before high school graduation, according to the American Educational Research Association. When poverty is added to the equation, that same student is 13 times more likely to drop out before high school…

Utilizing volunteers, along with Indianapolis Pacers, Butler University, Indianapolis Colts, political candidates, and local media representatives, we gained ~85 new volunteers for 3rd graders who would have otherwise gone without a reading partner and generated over 800,000 public online impressions through the campaign's…

    The Emerging Leaders program has more than 550 philanthropic young professionals, age 40 and younger, who spend time participating in volunteer opportunities, leadership development, and professional networking events. With our gifts of $1,000 or more, Emerging Leaders contribute over $1.3 million annually to Indianapolis for early childhood education.

    Environment

    Granted one of nine full-paid scholarships in the US. My project in Djupavik, Iceland involved cleaning miles of ocean shore, restoring a historic fishing factory, and cleaning up the landscape of the small, local community. I spent the two weeks working with seven other people from Spain, Germany, Finland, Mexico, and Canada.
