#LaunchAlert 🚀 We are thrilled to unveil our latest white paper, "𝗘𝗩-𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮: 𝗙𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗩 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮’𝘀 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵", authored by Aishwarya Agarwal and Neha Gupta. This paper aims to contribute to India’s equitable transition towards a decarbonised future and pave the way for women-led development. Did you know? Women currently make up 11-15% of India’s 1.1 crore EV workforce, and this is expected to reach 50% by the years 2030-33. This growth is a golden opportunity to reshape the employment landscape and break gender barriers in the automotive and transport sectors. Our white paper dives deep into: 🔍 Current Landscape: Analysing the representation of women in India's EV sector and their roles across various levels and industries. 🚧 Barriers to Participation: Identifying barriers that hinder active women's participation in the evolving EV sector using the PESTLE framework (Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal, and Environmental). 💡 Strategic Recommendations: Proposing actionable measures to foster women's meaningful participation, from policy reforms to skill development, infrastructure improvements, awareness campaigns, and financial support. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our esteemed peer reviewers who provided invaluable insights and guidance throughout the development of this white paper. Our deepest thanks to Arindam Lahiri, CEO, Automotive Skills Development Council - India; Bhaskar Natarajan, Senior Fellow, Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE); Manjunath Sekhar, Head - Sustainable Urban Mobility and Green Urban Mobility Innovation Living Lab, GIZ India; Chaitanya Kanuri, Associate Director- E-Mobility, WRI India; Aarti Mohan, Co-founder and Partner, Sattva Consulting; Atika Wadhwa, Director of Urban Transition and Chief of Staff, International Forum for Environment, Sustainability & Technology (iFOREST), Akshaya Paul, Research Associate at TERI - The Energy and Resources Institute and Pradeep Karuturi, Lead, Centre for Clean Mobility, OMI Foundation. 🔋 Can you guess which state EV policies have women-centric provisions on the supply side of EV value chains? State EV policies across India are brimming with industry incentives—fiscal support, capital and infrastructure subsidies, skill development, employment generation, and R&D. Yet, an analysis reveals a significant gap: most state policies lack explicit women-centric provisions. Only five states have included such provisions in their EV policies so far. Here are the trailblazers: 👉 Chhattisgarh and Odisha offer a capital subsidy of 30% of capital investment (up to INR 1.25 crore) in plant and machinery for new MSMEs owned by women. 👉 Jharkhand provides an additional 5% benefit to women entrepreneurs under the Comprehensive Project Investment Subsidy (CPIS), over and above the maximum limit of admissible subsidy. 👉 Punjab stands out by offering higher employment generation subsidies: INR 48,000 per year for each woman employee compared to INR 36,000 per year for each male employee, both for a period of three years. 👉 Tamil Nadu recognises the necessity of training subsidies for women, transgender employees, persons with disabilities, and individuals from SC/ST communities. 👉 West Bengal has proposed the establishment of a cohort of women drivers/owners of E3Ws for last-mile connectivity.
