The initiative was developed in extensive consultation with clinical experts, researchers and consumers, and with fellow ACDPA members Kidney Health Australia, Stroke Foundation and Diabetes Australia. 🔬 Detecting early signs of chronic disease and understanding individuals' risk factors are key to helping people work with health care professionals to manage and reduce their risk of chronic diseases developing or progressing, ultimately improving and saving lives. Chronic conditions are the leading cause of early death in Australia. The 5 leading causes of combined non-fatal and fatal disease burden in Australia in 2023 were also chronic conditions: 💔 1. Coronary heart disease 🧠 2. Dementia 😖 3. Back pain and problems 😰 4. Anxiety disorders 🌬 5. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Our CEO Chris Forbes was delighted to attend The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) launch of the 10th edition of the Red Book for General Practitioners (the Guidelines for preventative activities in general practice).   GPs are vital if we are to effectively tackle the crisis in #kidneydisease. Early detection and prevention of progression, leveraging new medical therapies now listed on the PBS, provides best outcomes for patients, their families and carers. Additionally, this will benefit our economy and health system.   Chris also Chairs the Australian Chronic Disease Prevention Alliance (ACDPA) and he expressed gratitude for Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care Ged Kearney on the government’s commitment to prevention. Chronic conditions which top the charts for causes of death in Australia have certain things in common - Australia’s National Preventive Health Strategy 2021-2030 identifies many of them, including how investing in health promotion, addressing risk factors and circumstances that influence health, and facilitating timely screening to detect and manage early signs of disease can not only prevent these and other diseases progressing to complications and early death, but improve people’s health and quality of life as well. #ActOnNCDs #LeadOnNCDs
