Triona McCarthy: From clean girl manicures to dazzling neon talons, nail the look this season with these top products

When it comes to nail care and nail colour, our beauty editor has a lot on her hands this week

The perfect polish for your nails

Triona McCarthy

Everywhere I go lately, nails seem to be taking centre stage as the accessory of the season.

At the Fastnet Film Festival in Schull, I noticed my new BFF Daisy Edgar Jones was sporting chic, minimalist, clean girl nails. The opposite of that is neon nails, as my real-life BFF Melanie Morris was wearing at a lunch in Wilde in The Westbury, while aura nails are also a thing — this is where you have a burst of diffused colour that starts from the centre of your nail. Very Sabrina Carpenter.

While natural nails and French manicures will always be popular, neon is really tapping into the appetite for bright and bold shades this summer — I’m blaming Trinny Woodall and her love for bright, electric colour.

Revolution Neon Nail Polish (€5.49, boots.ie)

You could give the neon trend a blast by using the 100pc vegan Revolution Neon Nail Polish (€5.49, boots.ie). It comes in six highly-pigmented shades and I love the bright yellow Zesty hue. Plus it’s enriched with avocado oil to nourish your talons while they are popping and dazzling everyone around.

For something a little more chic and classic, maybe try the Chanel Le Vernis Nail Polish (€32, arnotts.ie) in shade Sun Drop. It features a high concentration of pigment and is enriched with camellia eco-ceramides to give an ultra-shiny, even lacquered finish. It also comes with a new flat, wide brush to make application easy and precise.

Brides like my cousin Brid O’Driscoll are going mad this summer for the 14 Day Manicure Gel Nail Polish (€10, 14daymanicure.com) in Something Blue. The light, pastel blue shade from the Gentle Gels collection is designed to be fast and flawless to apply, as well as easy to remove, and is ideal for sensitive nails that are prone to irritation.

Actually, it’s a good idea to keep your hands soft and nails fortified at all times. The Nuxe Reve de Miel Hand and Nail Cream (€9.95, cloud10beauty.com) is a silky, non-greasy hand cream that contains honey, precious oils and vitamin E. It nourishes and repairs dry and damaged hands while protecting them from premature skin ageing, and best of all, it strengthens your nails.

Perfectil Plus Nails Extra Support, €32.25, mccabespharmacy.com

Elegant nails give a great first impression but if yours are in need of a bit of TLC, try the Perfectil Plus Nails Extra Support (€32.25, mccabespharmacy.com). It has been developed to help people maintain the health of their nails, and it includes nutrients and minerals that nourish tissue in the nail matrix and bed, including selenium, copper and horsetail botanical extract. Always consult your GP before beginning a supplement.

So there you go — I think you will agree that I’ve completely nailed it this week.
