Munster have confirmed that Conor Murray will continue in red for another season, with the Ireland scrum-half penning a one-year extension to his contract.

Although Craig Casey has been the province’s first-choice No 9 in the last year, Murray has remained an important player for Ireland and has opted to continue his long association with his home club.

There is still no update on Murray’s long-time teammate Peter O’Mahony’s situation, with Graham Rowntree saying last Saturday that a decision on the national team captain’s future is imminent amidst speculation he’ll retire at the end of the season.

O’Mahony stepped down from the Munster captaincy earlier this year and has been belatedly offered a deal to remain with his home club, which he has not yet signed.

One of the players who will be ear-marked as a long-term successor to O’Mahony is Brian Gleeson, who has been rewarded for his rise with a two-year senior deal.

A key member of the Ireland U-20s team that reached the World Cup final last season and is still eligible for the marquee underage team, Gleeson has been heavily involved in Munster’s senior set-up this season.

The Tipperary native, who has just turned 20, has made nine appearances and featured in three Champions Cup but is currently out injured.

Kerry back-row Jack Daly is another player who has recommitted his future to Munster, penning a one-year extension.
