The Royal Canal Greenway opened in March 2021 to much fanfare. The 130km path goes from Maynooth and follows the 225-year-old canal through Enfield, Mullingar and on to Cloondara in Longford. The people of Enfield have embraced the revived amenity, as well as the new leisure park that has been built alongside it on the banks at the edge of town.

Enfield has long been known as a commuter town, with mostly first-time buyers who were priced out of the Dublin market making a home there. As the town develops, however, more buyer types have made the decision to get out of dodge and get more bang for their buck to boot.

Most needs are now met in Enfield itself with SuperValu and Tesco Express setting up shop, as well as independent stores like butchers, hair salons, restaurants, cafes, and a choice of schools.

The recent release of Oakley Park in the town has attracted a few buyer types, according to agents at Knight Frank, with first-time buyers coming from surrounding areas and those commuting from Dublin with the ability to now work remotely a few days a week. There are also downsizers who are looking for a smaller, A-rated home that’s more efficient to run.

Developed by Pivotal Construction, along with architects Fewer Harrington and Partners, the scheme was designed with our new way of living in mind. It will consist of 72 A-rated homes that will be a mix of two-beds with a study, as well as three-bed end-of-terrace and semi-detached options.

In this first release, the two-beds are priced from €350,000 and have a floor area of 947 sq ft. On the ground floor is a living room with bay window to the front of the house and a fully-fitted kitchen with separate island and sliding doors out to the garden. There is also a guest WC and boiler room at this level. Upstairs is a family bathroom and large main bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe, as well as the second bedroom. The third room has been set up as a home office or study to cater for remote workers.

The three-beds, with a starting price of €390,000, measure 1,087 sq ft. These properties include an office or study area off the hallway, away from the busier rooms in the house. They also have a living room to the front and kitchen/dining area to the back, with a guest WC and small utility. On the second floor are three bedrooms (master ensuite) and the family bathroom.
