Genotyping programme to cost €18 per animal and generate over €300m for sector

ICBF’s target for year one will involve up to 800,000 cows, with the calves from those cows being genotyped next spring

The new genotyping programme for Irish cattle will cost €18 per animal and is expected to generate over €300m for the sector, Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue has said.

The voluntary five-year programme will be available to both beef and dairy herd owners, and the estimated total cost will be €83m.
