The long-term viability of dozens of farms and homes in south Galway could be in doubt, as a disagreement between Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and Galway County Council threatens to derail the long-awaited South Galway/Gort Lowlands Flood Relief Scheme.

Over the winter of 2015, more than 200 farms, 35 homes and 36 farm buildings were flooded in Kiltartan and other areas north of Gort. The flood waters took months to fully recede and caused millions of euros worth of damage to homes and farms.
