Discover the Rich Vegetation Conserved by SANParks! 🌳🌾🌿🌵 At South African National Parks (SANParks), we are committed to preserving the incredible diversity of our country's flora. From the lush, green forests of Tsitsikamma to the unique fynbos of Table Mountain, our parks are home to a variety of vegetation types that are essential to our ecosystems. Here's a glimpse of the vegetation we conserve: 🌱 Fynbos: This unique and rich vegetation type, found only in the Cape Floral Region, is known for its extraordinary biodiversity. With over 9,000 plant species, many of which are endemic, fynbos is a treasure trove of botanical wonders. 🌳 Forest: Our indigenous forests, like those in Tsitsikamma and Knysna, are ancient and support a myriad of life forms. These forests provide critical habitats for many species, including the elusive Knysna turaco and the endangered forest elephant. 🌾 Grassland: The vast grasslands of parks such as Golden Gate Highlands are essential for maintaining the ecological balance. These areas are rich in grasses and wildflowers and support a variety of wildlife, including the iconic black wildebeest. 🌿 Savanna: Kruger National Park's savannas are teeming with life, from majestic baobabs to sprawling acacia trees. This diverse landscape supports an incredible array of wildlife, making it one of the most famous conservation areas in the world. 🌵 Karoo: The arid Karoo regions, with their hardy succulents and shrubs, are a testament to nature's resilience. These unique landscapes are home to fascinating plant species adapted to survive in harsh conditions. #LiveYourWild #SANParks #WildIsOurBackyard #FloraFridays #Flora

Scent’s journey to recovery Scent is an eight-year-old bloodhound-mix specially trained to work as a SANParks anti-poaching K9. Together with her trusted handler, they have been responsible for the successful arrest of numerous potential poachers within South Africa’s National Parks. Unfortunately, Scent’s critical work came to a sudden halt last year, when she hurt her knee. She had ruptured her cruciate ligament and needed to undergo surgery and receive intensive treatment thereafter in order to have the best chance of recovery: https://buff.ly/3VXZqoC #K9ProjectWatchdog #SANParkshonoraryrangers #SANParks #BVH #RamsayRehabilitation #Blanketsforbabyrhinos #HoundSleeper #HillsPetSA #HillsTransformingLives

Recovery of the body of missing hiker on the Otter Trail South African National Parks (SANParks) regrets to inform the public that the body of the missing hiker on the Otter Trail in the Tsitsikamma Section of the Garden Route National Park has been recovered. The hiker was reported missing by his hiking group after he went ahead during their hike and was last seen at approximately 13:00 on the second last day of the trail. He did not arrive at the last overnight hut. SANParks Rangers, joined by the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), began a search yesterday around 15:43 despite unfavourable weather conditions, large swells and swollen rivers. By nightfall, there was no sign of the missing man. The search resumed at first light today with the support of SAPS and Police Search and Rescue teams. Unfortunately, the hiker was found deceased: https://buff.ly/3xRWdyM
