Julian Evans III Scholarship Foundation awards college scholarships

Julian Evans, III Scholarship Foundation awards six scholarships

CW5 Julian Evans, III

On Saturday, Josie Evans saw her mission of writing her husband's legacy into history come to fruition, and a big part of it is helping students foot the bill for their college education. Josie Evans started working on creating a scholarship foundation four days after her husband Julian Evans III died in July of 2023. More than 200 people filled the Jackson Center to support Josie Evans and celebrate six students from military families. The CW5 Julian Evans III Scholarship Foundation awarded $12,000 in scholarships in the name and honor of Julian Evans III.

Chief Warrant Officer 5 Julian Evans III was known as a loving husband, man of faith and faithful servant of the United States Army. He served that branch of the military since 1993 when he enlisted. He was looking forward to retirement, but he became ill six months ago and suddenly died at a hospital in Enterprise, Alabama.

"The diagnosis was pulmonary embolism. He had a blood clot that made it to his lungs," Josie Evans explained.

Evans experienced swelling and pain, possibly spurred by a recent surgery before he passed. One of his children, Te'Yanna Evans, said her world came to a full stop after she learned of her father's death. She told WAAY 31 her father was always there for her whenever she needed him and she talked to him about almost everything. She said his passion for education impacted her life the most. "He believed in the benefit and power of education and thought people should never stop learning," Evans shared.

Scholarship recipient Camdyn Berryman, who lives and attends school in Huntsville, said she was elated to learn she was chosen to receive one of the scholarships.

"It's a great organization, and I think it's awesome that Chief Evans is being recognized in this way. Reading through biography and learning about his life really inspired me," she shared.

"Julian was very dedicated to growth, education and continued learning, and I think through the scholarship his name will be remembered and others will be able to benefit from that," explained Colonel Charles Worshim. Worshim said Julian Evans was a dear friend and counselor for many years. They often talked about the possibility of Evans concluding his career at Redstone Arsenal.
