The area

Address
Neighborhood: La Rambla
Barcelona's most famous street was once a dry riverbed. Now, La Rambla is a 1200-meter boulevard, and a major draw for visitors. During the day, La Rambla fills with pedestrians, some of which stroll past impressive human statues and artists while others take a break to people-watch while enjoying a drink at one of the many terraces. Housed here is the iconic Boqueria Market that offers one of the most varied and appetizing selections of local produce and specialty meats and treats. While it’s important for tourists to keep an eye on their belongings at all times, this area is most safely explored in the daytime and is a must see for everyone who visits.

A must visit while in Barcelona. Probably more than once as well!
This bustling market is a must visit on a trip to Barcelona. A bit hectic but the food experience here is unmatched for local seafood, meats and snacks. Vendors offer prepared dishes and to go items of their produce and raw items. Enjoy a beer or glass of wine while your food is prepared right there. Amazing selection of seafood, cured meats and many other items. Prices are probably a bit higher than finding them on their own at other spots in the city but the experience is worth the slight increase. Too much to try on one visit! Schedule 2 trips on your visit to Barcelona.

Come hungry, you will want to try it all
Dear foodie readers, I love imagining how things would have been when visiting places that have been around for a while. This market was established in 1856, so not only are you going to a fabulous place, there is history there as well. We have done a good food tour in the Seattle market, and let me tell you, if you have never experienced one, this may be the place to do it. Since there are so many options, the tour will usually allow you to try the best of the best. The colors, the choices, the flavors, it honestly seems endless. We went every morning while in Barcelona, I loved the spinach and cheese empanadas, my boys would get fresh fruit juices with a pastry, and the hubs a cup of coffee. They opened early, so it was a perfect stop as we walked to our tour of the day.

Lots of amazing food places to enjoy
It was really good to walk around, had my morning juice from market for 4 morning in a row and they are delicious. Also many food outlets to enjoy with lots of variety so you can visit several times. Also can buy meat, seafood, sweets along with souvenirs. Located near the start of La Rambla and definitely on the list of things to do and see in and around Barcelona.

    Try the Hamburger Tacos 🌮
Great place to visit. Just make sure you’re really hungry. So much you will want to try. Grab a fruit juice and have a stroll around all the stalls. Be careful of your bags, best to have them in front of you here as it can get very busy and cramped.

    Amazing
Amazing experience. Easily spend a few hours exploring. Literally ate and drank our way round. Make sure you go there hungry and with plenty of money to spend . Lots of experiences to try... fresh juices, fresh fruits, spanish meats and cheese, fresh fish, oysters, paella, to name just a few. It's definitely a must to visit! Is very very busy so be prepared for a crowded walk around. Closer on a Sunday.

I had visited Barcelona 3 times before but never the market. I missed out, so glad I visited this time. It’s feels like you in one your favourite food travel shows. We found a seat at Remblero what a great experience

    Better than a museum!!!!
One of the best markets I have ever seen in my life!!! I would compare it to a museum of fruit, vegetable, nuts, candy display. This is a must activity if you are in Barcelona! we tried fruits, nuts, freshly squeeze juices, baked goods, and had a wonderful lunch.

    Busy market
Passed through the market on a Monday afternoon for lunch. It was pretty busy as expected. Some vendors we're closed or empty. We walked through and sampled some of the different vendors. We tried jamon and manchego, empanadas, sausage and roast beef, juices, and olive skewers. Everything was good, but not the best things we ate on our trip. Would like to sit down at one of the restaurants another time. Many of the vendors had similar things, so it was hard to know which to go for.

The freshest foods you will find
If there is one market you visit in Barcelona for food, this is it. From fish to meats , sweet treats , amazing displays of fruit, takeaway items ( some have sit down counters attached where you can order a beer or wine ), there is something for everyone. It is closed on Sundays, so plan ahead. The later in the day it does get busier, but not to the extent you can't get to the stalls. Take some time and enjoy all that the market has to offer.

The market is very obviously a tourist trap but at the same time I do recommend paying a visit.
The market smells amazing with fresh fruit, seafood, spices etc on offer but I never bought anything due to long queues.
For that reason I do recommend going earlier on in the day as I went 1pm and it was far too crowded to enjoy.
When busy beware of pickpockets! Due to the crowds and the unaware tourists thieves target the area, but as long as you stay alert and carry your bag in front of you it is fine.

Having last visited Barcelona over two decades ago I wanted to repeat the market experience. You can so often get the feel of the soul of a place by exploring its markets, and this market used to be fabulous - bursting with fresh produce.
What a disappointment! This is not a place for Barcelona people to buy food. Rather than fresh food, the dominant trade was in vacuum-packed 'flight-ready' Iberico ham and chorizo - and various sandwiches for immediate on-the-hoof consumption.
Habits change though and if this market didn't cater predominantly for tourists it would probably be on its uppers. The same is true of Borough Market in London, and others round the world. People don't value fabulous fresh produce enough, nor do they have the time or the living-space to prepare it it.
I suppose it is the soul of modern Barcelona, a city whose heart has been crowded out by tourists - as its market shows.
As I write this, there are anti-tourist protests on the Spanish island of Mallorca. I sympathise with them, despite having been myself a tourist in Barcelona last weekend. We all need to travel less, travel more slowly, travel more sympathetically, and travel better.

Big variety of foods, drinks and many more. It’s a paradise for people like me, who love to visit and eat fresh food.
The downside is the amount of tourists.
It’s hard to move around and you must be careful with your belongings.

Wow- Sensory overload! The colors, smells and sights are wonderful! The food options are expansive and delicious. Don’t expect to sit unless you are buying a full meal from one of the sit-down vendors (we asked for a beer and were told it had to be take-away unless we wanted to purchase a full meal.) my husband and I each found different options for lunch - it was wonderful!

A must-do to feast your eyes on the incredible cuisine of this region.
Beautiful hams, fresh fruit and vegetables, and freshly caught fish that is being prepared right in front of you are among the mouthwatering options.
If you're in the area, it's definitely worth your time to just stroll around and enjoy the scenery.
Encourage trying a snack.
You will see whole fish and smell fish and other produce because it's a market, but that's not the point.
Enjoy your time here; it's definitely worth a trip if you're nearby.

A very bustling market with so many amazing sights and smells. We thoroughly enjoyed our little jaunt into this “Mercado” . My son and I had fun excursion and walk through the market especially enjoying the charcuterie serano was shaved right from the shank (?) and the salty cheeses cut from the block. We had special juices to go with them from another stand. The sweets - cookies and candies from one of the oldest in Barcelona was equally delicious. We never felt uncomfortable walking around in there and as always just stayed mindful of our belongings. Great place to take in the atmosphere while enjoying local culinary delights.

The Mercat de la Boqueria is a Barcelona must. If you're into meats, cheeses, charcuterie, antipasti, fresh seafood, and/or tapas, this is your spot! Grab a seat at Bar Boqueria, enjoy the tapas and wine, and marvel at the quality service. Freshly sliced Iberian ham is the ultimate and has now surpassed Italian prosciutto as our favorite! Amazing food everywhere you look. Just make sure you bring your appetite.

"Would you go back again?" or "Would you do it again?" or "Would you order it again?" is the question I always ask of any traveler. The answer tells me everything I need to know. The answer for the Mercat de la Boqueria? A resounding Yes! I'll make sure to make time for it our next trip there!

This was a must do on our trip and it didn’t disappoint! Everything lived up to our expectations. We went around 6 and it was perfect ~ lively but not super crowded. We walked around and then got seats at Bar Boqueria to have some tapas and sangria…it was a perfect first day!
