Here we are, sitting in the airport after our week at Daiquiri! I would like to preface this by saying we've never been to this resort, but we have been to the area in Cuba both before and after the pandemic.
Check-in: Took longer than it should have. They had a reservation under our booking number, but not names, which meant none of our room requests (high floor, king bed) made it to the resort. So when we were given our room, it had two beds and was on the main floor. We were exhausted from 18 hours of travel at this point, and they told me that's what was available, so we decided to make due. We also ended up losing water for 32 hours. We luckily had friends with rooms that had water, as no solutions were presented until a new room could be provided the next day.
The rooms are definitely not the best feature at this resort. They are very dated, and some things just need to be replaced. Like bedding, curtains, some doors. Our sliding glass door had a hole in it, which I think was a good access point for bugs. However, the bathroom was nice and the plumbing was fabulous. Toilets flush well, great water pressure, hot water always, and the bathroom was spacious. Housekeeping does a good job with what they have. Fridges in the rooms are not stocked. This was disappointing, but you will receive a bottle of water everyday. You also have to pay for the safe. $20 CAD for the week.
Wifi was fabulous. It works everywhere, and it works well. Never had an issue, and it's included.
Bars were hit and miss. Service was always good, but there were some shortages. This didn't stop us from always finding something to drink. The garden bar was our favorite. This resort does a great Pina Colada, Lemon Daiquiri, and Mojito.
Food - we were pleasantly surprised. Although this resort did not offer as much selection as other resorts we've been to, everything that was available was quite good. The omelets in the morning were fantastic, and there was always lots of fruits and veggies available. I made many great salads. The Al A Cartes were fine. We preferred the buffet food. But try to get to the beach restaurant for lunch. It was the best meal we had all week. There are some flies and a couple of roaches, this is not a big deal. It's a tropical island.
The pool is a great place to spend an afternoon. Music, a swim up bar. We loved that the stools weren't underwater. There is a pool with access to the bar, and a more child friendly pool without. The snack bar was the biggest disappointment. No menu, sometimes just fries, sometimes it just wasn't open. It's basically non existent. There is essentially no food outside of the buffet times which can be tricky, but make sure you bring some snacks.
The beach is beautiful to lounge or snorkel, but not great for swimming. There are a lot of jellyfish in the water, as well as major areas of thick seaweed not too far in. We've never experienced this much stuff in the water, but the walkout is stunning and very picturesque. You are also very close to Pilar Beach, which is definitely worth a visit.
Great little shops to browse on the resort, but the prices are better at the cayo coco market. Take the double decker bus for a fun little trip. The grounds are stunning at the resort. Please thank and tip a gardener if you see them. I love the architecture of the buildings and it really adds to the charm of the resort. The cigar bar was a nice stop on our last evening. Knowledgeable gentleman running it who also makes great drinks.
The nightly shows were fabulous, and they had great entertainment most nights beforehand in the Lobby. The lobby of this resort is amazing. Lovely, lots of seating, and a fun place to hangout!
We had a great week with friends, but based on our other Cuban Experiences, we would not return to this resort. I would give an honest 3.5/5
