Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
The staff at this resort are second to none. Amazing and friendly service. The rooms were a good size however we did have a problem with ants in the bathroom. the maid would clean and an hour later the bathroom was crawling with red ants again. Beds were pretty standard for Cuba, and luckily we did not get stuck with flat pillow. Unfortunately there were no extra blankets in the room (a lot of resorts have a spare in the closet), so we were each stuck with a sheet and a thin blanket. Our room was close to the beach which was nice, as I could sit out on the terrace, drink coffee and watch the waves.
The beach was groomed regularly but due to the winds a lot of the sand had swept away and you would end up walking on stone in some spots. The ocean water was crystal clear however it was not deep at all. My group and I walked as far as we could before running the risk of being hit by a kitesurfer and the water never got deeper than our knees. This is great if you have small children, but for us adults, we missed out on being able to actually swim in the ocean.
The pool was clean and lots of lounge chairs available. they did have a foam party one day but the machine broke before they could actually get foam onto the pool, so that was disappointing as I had always wanted to be at a resort during a foam party.
The food was meh! I have been to Cuba 17 times and this was one of the worst as far as food options. The variety was lacking. We ate the same thing day after day and even that was slim pickings. We couldn't get into the a la cartes as they were always booked up.
On the positive side, the resort staff are always checking in with guests to get feedback on their experience and work hard to rectify any issues. The entertainment team also adjusted the location of their activities due to cold weather - they literally brought the party to the people. If everyone was in the lobby having drinks, that's where they would set up games and dancing to keep everyone entertained, which was awesome.
The people at the resort, both guests and staff made our vacation as good as it way. Needless to say due a couple factors mentioned above, I will not likely to return.
I think if more food options were available and the beach was a bit nicer and the water swimmable, this place would be a great place to go in Cayo Guillermo.

First of all, we based our stay at Club Cayo Guillermo based on all the fabulous reviews! We weren't disappointed! We met our daughter, son in law and 2 grandchildren from Calgary to spend a week of R&R. All we wanted was sun, a beautiful beach, a clean room and decent food. We got everything and more... Our room was right on the beach with it's own patio so, every morning you could enjoy your coffee while watching the sun rise...... heavenly. You could walk the beach forever and it was a beach combers delight! My grandchildren were thrilled with all their finds, me as well. The water was clear and shallow so safe for kiddies. At low tide you can walk out quite a way and see starfish, fish , sand dollars etc. The kids were fascinated! Our maid, Aida took wonderful care of us, we had clean towels every day without expecting them, lots of water and a sparkling clean room! Thank you Aida!! We met and got to know a number of staff members. Yulia, Ludy, Serge and Elvis were a few of the bartenders we met, each of them absolutely lovely people and they all gave exceptional service. Yulia in particular went out of her way for my whole family. Thank you Yulia, you're a peach! Dianneysis (probably spelled that one wrong!) was fabulous as well. She manned the snack bar at the pool bar every day and was always happy and smiley and went out of her way for us. She also, according to my husband makes the BEST omelettes! The buffet was better than I expected, we are spoiled in Canada and have access to so much more than the Cubans. They did a bang up job though, no one went hungry and the food was plentiful. The Cuban a la carte was wonderful, every last mouthful was very tasty. In the lobby bar you can get cappuccino and espresso both of which were great. Alex, one of the managers was ever present and spoke with guests to make sure there was nothing they needed. In fact, a number of supervisors/managers were a visual presence on a daily basis, chatting with guests. I for one have never seen this at any other resort and, we've been to many.... All in all, this was a fabulous much needed getaway and, we are looking forward to returning next season. There are only a couple of minor things that I would like to see changed, coffee makers in the rooms would be great as well as hand sanitizer at the restaurant entrances. This is my 5th vacation to this resort in the past 3 years. I keep returning as I am very satisfied with everything it offers.
I prefer smaller resorts. This one is the perfect size for me, everything is within close walking distance.
The resort is kept clean, the gardens well tended to and flourishing each time I return.
My housekeeping staff keep my room very clean and replenish items daily if required.
The buffet restaurant has a vast variety of foods, all delicious to me, and showing even more improvement all the time.
I go for extended periods of time, 4 to 6 weeks at a time, and I never tire of anything at the resort.
The beach is pristine and very large. Beach chairs always to be found and very spacious areas to sit.
What keeps me coming back, also?
The STAFF. Every place I have been on the resort the staff has been very helpful, always making sure everything is OK for me. They are hard workers, genuine in making me satisfied and happy to assist in anything.
This visit in January/February I was informed the resort was under new management which are intending to make changes in many areas.
I had the pleasure of the General Manager introducing himself to me, along with managers for other areas of the resort, restaurant/bar, rooms, etc.
Each one took the time to always mingle with guests making sure everything was ok and taking care of any concerns.
I noticed changes and improvements during my stay, and I can only assume there is more to come.
It's not only a vacation for me, it's a return to see the many staff members I have become friends with.
I am awaiting a return.

Nice clean comfortable rooms , very gd matresses and plumbing and a/c.
Food is gd, they have quality chefs, grill chefs and stations, fresh baked bread and deserts, ice cream, salads, hot tables, white glove waiter service with wine at lunch and dinner. Lobster dinners available gd price.
Beach is wave free, white sand , clear blue and turqoise water, protected by coral reefs, shallow and great snorkelling right at hotel, free katamaran rides, scuba lessons and diving, and windsurfing. Great fishing walking distance from hotel. There are flocks of pink flamingos and large white casablancas all around hotel, just butfl. Very close to airport and pilar beach, go to see huge catamarans and yachts anchored there and have swim and lunch , fantastic beach. Entertainment and shows are first class, lots of mariachi groups all the time and singers. The staff and management at hotel are world class , speak english, and will help you with anything you need . The new managers cesar and nicer are working to turn this already very gd hotel into probably the best all around hotel in cuba, very gd atmosphere and customer satisfaction because of their first class service. Thank you gran caribe club cayo guillermo for nice vacation and hopefully many more to come at your hotel. I recommend this hotel for family, freinds, romance for couples and marriages, very gd hotel.

This was my 15th time at this hotel with my family and everytime has been perfect. The location is perfect for Kitesurfers and all the people who would like to stay at a quiet and beautiful place. The beach is designed to please everyone ( delimided zones for swimming and kitesurf). The color of the sea is incredible and you can walk hundreds of meters since the level of the water is not very high. The rooms are always clean, well equiped with all the necessary things such as AC, TV, little fridge, hair dryer... Our maid Marelys was really nice, and always available in case we needed anything. Animation staff were very entertaining and always doing their best so that we can enjoy our holidays. Shows are differents every nights and well prepared. If you have kids, they do a minidisco before the shows. The food at the buffet is really good and there is a wide variety so that everyone can enjoy it. Big thank you to Yunior for making the best omelettes in the morning and snacks around the pool. Also, thanks to chef Jeremiah you can enjoy really good deserts at the buffet and almost all time aroud the bar in the lobby. All the staff were amazing, from the staff at the bars (Elvis, Julia, Wilma, Hector...) to the receptionists and their manager Eddwin which has been incredible. We had an issue with our safety box and Lismel and Rodolfo came right away to check the issue and make all they could to fix it as soon as posible so we could enjoy the rest of the day. Thank you everyone for this 15th time at the Gran Caribe Club Cayo Guillermo. We will be back very soon !!

I spent 3 days and 3 nights there with my sister, booked 3 days in advance and everything was as expected, even better! The first room we had was next to a family with 3 small children, as we were there mainly to rest and enjoy the sun, we asked for a new quieter room the next day. The first room could simply need a new fresh paint here and there but it was comfortable and we were given 2 separate beds as requested in the reservation. We met Nisser at breakfast the first morning, the hotel manager and we told him about us wanting to change rooms. He was very accommodating and upgraded us to a great ocean view room and made sure our neighbours were not a family setup. All in all hotel and location are very nice, beach is beautiful and quiet, all inclusive buffet and drinks are good, excellent place for couples, friends or families. Night shows are pretty impressive, with a different theme every night and amazing dancers wearing beautiful costumes! Late checkout is possible as well as early checkin for just 8 CUC per person to enjoy all inclusive services! As for our European standards, you should know that almost all places in Cuba could use some fresh paint, a little 2020 update but if you go around the country, you’ll find out that because they have been cut off from part of the world, forced to follow importation regulations for so long, it’s completely understandable that some of the accommodations, restaurants, cars,.. have not yet been meeting our 2020 expectations. When you go to Cuba, you jump a few decades back in time and it feels just right and authentic! All in all I would totally recommend this hotel as all staff members will make you feel like home and accommodate you as best as possible! Cherry on the cake, Nisser did everything he could do, when I told him I forgot my beach dress in our first room, and I got it back the very next day! Muchísimas gracias por todo!

This was our 4th visit to this resort and won't be our last. We traveled as a family with two children and my in-laws and were pleased they put us next door to each other. The resort has gone through huge improvements in the past year and keeps getting better.
The rooms are fine, beach beyond words stunning,great pools, variety in food and drinks are plentiful. There are lots of activities for anyone to enjoy and staff work hard to make your trip memorable. We also walked up to see the flamingos and were glad to see them returning.
New managers Ceasar, Alex and Alejandro were friendly and checked in daily to ensure all was well and let us know if we needed anything to let them know...I have never seen this level of care from management at any resort! We also has a customer service call to our room to check in. Staff are incredible! Barbaro in the restaurant is friendly, kind and goes above and beyond with his fun personality. Evis in the lobby bar always greets with a smile and fantastic drink, especially appreciated his extra care when my young daughter fell off a stool getting a kiddie drink while we waited for our bus to leave. Thank you my friend!
The kids club is amazing and my kids love spending time with their friend Nildrey each year. The club offers trips to the dolphinarium, horse and carriage rides, and a waterpark at a nearby resort. We love Nildrey and so do our kids which is most important.
As returning guests we received a bottle of rum in our room and a special dinner which amounted to pretty much a personal chef for the meal. Much appreciated! We appreciate the work they all do and resort improvements. We like small resorts where you can easily get to the pool, beach, meals and meet many others along the way. If this is your thing too you cant go wrong. We will be back next year for sure! Hasta pronto!

We have stayed at this resort for the past 10 years and were amazed at the improvements this year. New management, Caesar and Alex, always present, speaking with guests, asking if there was anything they could do for them etc. Greeted you at dinners or just in the lobby or bars. There are 14 gardeners who had the grounds looking immaculate. They had one day while we were there that all management went around the whole grounds picking up any garbage, plastic cups etc. All the restaurants were open and the food choices were incredible. The bars had lots of staff so there were no line ups and as always the bartenders were cheerful . The entertainment crew had the crowds involved everyday . Yorky, Geri, Michael and McAulay and the rest keep everyone happy. We meet many many return customers just like us who raved about the difference. As always Eddwin and the front desk the most pleasant charming people to deal with. As always you make your own holiday what it is but this group is more than willing to assist in any way they can. Please, as tourists, we need to be more aware of our environment. Bring your own mugs to reduce the use of plastic cups. Hang your towels, I am sure you don't wash them at home everyday. Let the housekeeping staff know it is not necessary everyday. We are all on vacation but it doesn't mean we need to be wastful. So happy for everyone on the resort . They are working hard to keep improving every year. Miss them all already.

Club Cayo Guillermo was the resort we stayed at and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. By the end of our vacation this friendly group felt like family, and called us by name. I heard lots of stories before we went that the food is the reason people don’t choose Cuba well I have to say maybe in the past as we were impressed with every meal... Lobster dinners, fish, ribs, pork, beef.. you name it they had it with a huge desert table also. Our room was cleaned daily and we always came back to the room to find a beautiful display on our bed. Would I go back to Club Cayo Guillermo, yes absolutely in a heart beat. The beach of white sand and warm ocean water is one of the bests I’ve seen. Daily games and dance lessons and nightly entertainment that could easily have a spot in Vegas they were that good!! See you next Christmas Cuba!!

Hubby & I had some surprise extra vacation time & having already been to Holguin 2 weeks prior, this was a surprise, perfect last minute, not so expensive rendevous.
We stayed on the club side and really enjoyed the smaller, quiet, area for sunbathing from the beach to the pool, and also enjoyed the buffet restraunt/bar.
The room furnishings and bathroom could definately use some tlc but new beds were brought in to the rooms while we were there.
We had a beautiful view of the ocean and everything was within a 5 minute walk.
In the evenings after dinner we would walk to the main lobby/bar where there was always good entertainment...my only suggestion would be more seating 🙂
Very nice staff and very accomodating, I wish I could give a 5⭐ but as I said, the rooms need some tlc, otherwise, beautiful beach, decent food, very nice pool, lovely grounds, and very friendly staff...perfect for what we were looking for, within our budget, and completely what we were expecting!

Kids can get some ham and cheese sandwiches. Bring condiments. Peanut butter if they like. Yes bring life jacket for pool. You can walk out a long way in ocean and its still shallow
If your dead set on going there… Change the reservation; if you can try and get a concrete bungalow, or downgrade to a standard room. Anything is better than the wood bungalows!!! And don’t forget to pack your own show curtain.
There are more places to choose from in the Cayo Guillermo area.
