Stayed here for 8 nights in March. From the start we knew is was going to be good. Met by our Butler, Juan at reception who showed us around the resort and took us into our room(622), WOW is was stunning, a large living area, two double beds nice size bathroom, with outdoor shower, dressing area and plenty of room for storing your clothes and overlooking Sunset beach. We had another butler, Sergio who was equally as good. Arranging laundry for you, always asking if you needed anything in the room. I did ask for teabags and milk, and every time we saw him he asked if we needed any more. Asked for more shower gel, and it was there by the time we got to the room. Both of them also made our dinner reservations, apart from the first night we used La Caribes restaurant because the menu changed daily. I'm a fussy eater but always found something to eat and also tried a few new things, our waitress for the whole time was Saily, what a delight a 21 one year old beautiful young lady, she looked after us really well, even decorating the table for us on the last night and making sure we had a bottle of sparkling wine, as she knew this was my favourite. For lunch time we didn't go in the buffet restaurant but ate at the pool bar, this again was a great experience, the chef cooked excellent pizza, chicken, hot dogs etc. The bar staff, including Lester, Erik, Dauerty to name but a few were a joy to meet, kept us amused whilst having a rest from the sun. The entertainment in the evening at the Lobby bar was soo good, even one of the bartenders doing the Salsa. It made my night. I could go on with complements for this resort but you really need to try it for yourselves. Unfortunately the hotel closed 4 days after we left because of Coronavirus, I wish all the staff and management good fortune for the future and hope when this is over they will be able to open up again and give many travellers and excellent holiday as we had.

We recently returned to the Melia Buenavista for our second visit. The first was September 2019! The resort is just as lovely as we remembered with manicured gardens, two pools, and three beaches to choose from, who wouldn't be satisfied.

The Buenavista offers large, spacious rooms ( our housekeeper Lianny everything clean daily :) with an incredible outdoor shower and huge tub to wash away the day's saltiness acquired at one of the three white sand beaches. The snorkelling here off the middle and long beaches was some of the best we've done so far in all of our travels with sightings of barracuda, lion fish, a white spotted blowfish, and even a reef shark, along with numerous schools of beautiful fish. We thought we were in the most abundant natural aquarium.

Although the grounds and beaches are phenomenal, it's the staff that elevates this resort to a cut above the rest. From our pre-trip dialogue with Yamile in the booking department to our daily interactions with our great butlers Sergio and Ramon, we felt welcome and valued. Joan and Armando checked in with us often even though they buttlered in other sections. The pool bar crew (Yeri, Lester, Yoandry, Pedro and Pitti), Andres at the long beach, and our waiters Carlos, Yoan, and Yoel L kept us fed, watered and entertained. I visited the spa several times during our stay, where Elroy happily arranged my massages with Lester. He was professional and offered an array of helpful therapeutic choices. Nayy tailored his yoga class to the client's skills and requests. From the bar staff to the front desk personnel who helped us on numerous occasions, especially the last day when our flight was delayed. Everyone did their best to assist with our requests and make our stay memorable.

Nightly entertainment was delivered in a small patio setting just off the gorgeous lobby bar. This intimate environment enables clients to experience the world class musicians up close and promotes mingling on an international scale. We met some wonderful friends!

Although we don't go to Cuba for the food and having previously vacationed over 30 times and understanding the difficulties with supply chains, we were still very disappointed in the food and beverage quality. During our previous visit, the food was top notch with many delicious choices. This visit left us dissatisfied after many dinners over 14 days (breakfast and lunch were repetitive, but generally fine) and pondering Melia's five star rating as well as the higher vacation costs they charge. Perhaps reintroducing an international manager would help.

Overall, we would recommend the Buenavista for those craving beautiful beaches, a restful, relaxed setting with low key activities, and most importantly great Cuban people who appreciate tourists visiting their island. Gracias por todo!

Jim and Cindy

This is already our second visit to Melia Buenavista (MBV) in 2022. We loved it so much the first time, we simply turned around and went back. Many of the people you meet at MBV are also repeat customers. It is simply a superb place to go if you are looking for a tranquil holiday in a pristinely clean environment. MBV is located away from other resorts and offers three unblemished beaches to enjoy.
The resort itself is lovely, but it is the staff who make the experience. From the moment you arrive, you are welcomed, embraced and nurtured. Every morning at breakfast we were met by either Daymi or Lili, our butlers, who organized and took care of our daily needs and activities. They were constantly available from early morning until late evening to make certain we didn’t want for anything.
A stroll to the pool had you greeted by Lester and Yery at the pool bar. Their generosity of spirit, kindness and empathy was shared with each and everyone of us. They were both interested in us and interesting to speak with. There were no requests too big or too small. Livan couldn’t have been kinder and more accommodating as he took care of us at the pool and quiet beach - always making certain we were happy. Pedro had a constant smile for us at the snack bar where he prepared our frequent pizzas.
There are many activities to participate in - yoga, dance lessons, aquafit, and short lectures/tastings. While all instructors were wonderful, Navy was exceptional as he shared his zest for life, enthusiasm and professionalism. Many a night, he brought us all to the dance floor where we practiced the dance steps we’d learned during the day.
We ate most of our meals at the Los Caribe’s restaurant as it featured local and Latin foods that we enjoy. We always sat in the sections Ailan and Yobani were assigned to given their warmth and kindness.
Of course, the day wouldn’t be complete without recognizing Eduardo who made certain we always had water and coffee in our room and offered to bring a variety of other beverages at the same time. Maria, our housekeeper, added extra little touches so that we had fresh flowers and towel art to look forward to as we returned to our room.
As you can see reading this, we only have positive memories OLG the resort, however, it is the staff who enriched our memories and will bring us back.

Although in a beautiful location this property is not a 5 star or even a 4 star. The food is mainly inedible, even by Cuban standards and served in dirty restaurants especially the breakfast room. How they can make food that is so tasteless and vile is mind boggling!! The vast majority of staff are friendly and helpful but the lack of attention to basic cleaning is astonishing. I smudged the mirror in our bedroom on our first day and that same mark was still there 5 days later when we left early because we could not take anymore. Other guests had similar experiences and would advise anyone to think twice about staying here!

I have been in Melia Buenavista for 5 days in 521 room and I never wanted to leave!
I have to thank many people: the two gentleman who looked after us and our room, they were gentle, careful and supportive.
The girls who tidied the room, the composition we found every day was beautiful and sweety.
The staff of all the beaches:helpful, nice and always present!
The staff of the Caracola: guys, you are fantastic!
Angel and the other animation boy: very nice, very funny and very patient with my salsa!
I hope I haven't forgotten anyone and many thanks again. I felt like family.

I have to start by thanking the hotel and it’s wonderful staff and caring Butlers Eddie and Armondo, making our stay even better. We even came back to a bubble bath in the jet run decorated with flowers! The rooms are huge with walk in closets, safe and separate toilet and bidet and the outdoor shower is Devine! This is a piece of heaven. There are 3 bays to snorkel and Miguel, a life guard will take you out further into the reef to explore. We just got back from Bonaire and South America and this was excellent and comparable seeing almost every variety of fish, barracuda, puffers, octopus, squid corals, flounders etc. It’s open to the Atlantic but situated on 3 bays facing different directions so other than the gusting heavy north winds, you should be able to find a place to snorkel almost every day. If your looking for privacy, quiet and lovely meals this is the place for you. My adult daughter and I will be back. You also have the use of the other two Melia Resorts for more restaurants and that lively all inclusive vibe many travellers are looking for. They shuttle you over in a 5 minute drive that’s seamless. We enjoyed a brief visit to take it in but returned back to MBV and paradise.
Our only complaint was the odd bad traveller with no knowledge of Cuba, the hardworking Cuban people, or that there are things that are different that makes this place so special. If your one of those miserable souls, as in some of these reviews, please stay home.
To everyone else, you are about to be pleasantly surprised! Remember your little luxuries from home in your travel kit as you most likely will not be able to purchase these in Cuba. Bring some tips, although no one expects it, know your safe here and so are all your belongings. Understand Cuban cooking can be mild, so add some spice if you desire and enjoy the farm fresh excellent food!

Good: Beautiful beaches and a few pleasant helpful staff.
Bad: The resort is no way 5 star. It is so run down with broken patio doors, drawers on the floor, broken tiles, and little outside maintenance. No facecloths or handtowels and bring your own toilet paper! Mini fridge had only 2 small bottles of water and a large bottle of Coke. Beer not available in bottles or cans for fridge (only draught) although saw bartenders pouring from cans and/or bottles at bars. We were seated at the al a carte and immediately asked what we wanted to eat. We had to ask for wine everytime! Food was not memorable. Our last night meal had to be sent back (lukewarm fish and undercooked). Waitress had very poor understanding of english.
Front desk staff ignorant at best. No information about local transportation or dining at sister resorts. Some staff just don't care.
Our male butler was to arrange an early breakfast at 6am before airport pick up but that didn't happen. Fortunately our lady butler noticed and got us a sandwich from the kitchen before we left. She was lovely!
Beach bar staff never left the bar all day. We were never asked if we would like a drink. The resort had less than 50 rooms booked in 108 rooms so the staff were not overworked.
Not worth $5000!

My wife and I spent 8 nights at the hotel following a tour of other towns and cities across Cuba and it was a fantastic spot to relax at the beach, enjoy the sun and snorkeling. There are no doubts that there are little improvements that could be made around the rooms and the complex in general but within the context of the rest of our visit to Cuba there is no doubt the hotel does a great job at ensuring guest feel welcomed, that they can relax and enjoy their holiday.

The food in the restaurants was average at times but there was plenty of choice at breakfasts and the pizza / burger grill adjacent to the pool was a great option for snacks during the day. There is no doubt the staff are the real stars, no matter where you are in the hotel the staff are always very helpful. Special thanks to Lester and the team at the pool bar, Manuel at the beach bar, Carlos the waiter at breakfast and Joan, Ramon and Armando.

The staff genuinely ensured hat our stay was a memorable one and would certainly be the reason to return!!

I also made use of the gym whilst I was there, running machine was good and overall it was a well furnished gym. Spa treatments were available and my wife enjoyed those. WiFi was available throughout though you do have to renew your access after a certain amount of use, to be honest I was glad to be without it! Snorkeling was great and every day there was dancing and aqua aerobics by the pool. Certainly something for everyone. The one real negative at times was the mosquitos, they were a pest on a few evenings, not a surprise perhaps but just something to be aware of.

We absolutely loved our time at Melia Buenavista. It was a quiet resort with a perfect assortment of beaches and waterfronts. Access to watch both the sunrise and the sunset. Each sunset was accompanied with lovely music, often times live.

The water was calm and there were enough areas without seaweed to enjoy some wading. There is plentiful opportunity to snorkel and observe the natural reef surrounding the resort.

The food left much to be desired, as is apparently expected in this post covid “shortages” time.
Don’t forget the option to visit neighbouring sister resorts owned by Melia. Buffet meal options different a la carte restaurants - especially the Japanese at Melia Cayo Santa Maria. Chat with your butler about options. You can take a shuttle back and forth on the pre arranged schedule, just make sure you’re early…as they sometimes don’t wait for the clock to strike the hour.
It is about an hours walk along the beach…gorgeous if you desire that way.

The highlight for us was the group for entertainment at Buenavista. I think they call themselves the animation team.
Navy and Anderxon were SO STELLAR at providing a welcoming, fun, energetic, and joyful environment to move our bodies too.
Yoga and tai chi on the beach. Water aerobics and stretching afterwords. Dance lessons and music by the pool. And just a general presence of smiles and hospitality around the pool area, you can often find them serving food and refreshing towels! Never stopping to make sure your stay feels good.

Thank you to all of the outstanding staff at Melia Buenavista. We’ll be back!

This resort is a very quiet retreat with limited amenities, but everything is elevated by the staff. There is only a few negatives I would say:

1) Upon arrival, we were very hungry, but the kitchen was closed and there was nothing they could give us, even though the website advertised 24 hour food service. We had the same issue on 3 other nights during our 7 night stay - they weren't able to give us any food.

2) There are only 3 restaurants on the resort, one has breakfast & lunch, and the two others do dinner. Dinner was the best meal, but the quality and variety of the other meals and was usually not great.

3) The resort is VERY quiet. Most days there was no music or anything at the pools or beaches. Definitely pack a speaker for music or some entertainment for yourself.

Now, the much longer list of positives:

The staff who we interacted with were beyond helpful, and very kind. I want to give special mention to a few staff members who made our trip very memorable:

At the lobby and beach bars: Luis, Leydi, Anaïse, Mike W, and Andrès. They made the best drinks and always were happy to see us. They are the best bartenders we've ever had!

Our Chambermaid: Lanni, kept the room very clean and was very courteous with us when our checkout was flooded with rain

Dayron, who brought drinks to our room every day and always went out of his way to say hello and talk with us. He also works the bars and was the best whenever he was there.

Perdomo, the attendant on the sunset beach, is very kind and happy to see us every morning. He was always fishing for barracuda and gave us great tips for fishing on the resort, and even helped us capture bait worms.

Liban, the attendant at the main beach, also gave us great fishing tips, and helped us get fresh coconuts to drink.

And above all, Elynei and Joel, our butlers, were absolutely amazing. They helped us with everything we needed and were the pinnacle of "Royal Service". They always knew how to find us on the resort, and always made sure we had everything we needed during our stay. On top of that, they are wonderful people and gave us great tips for food, relaxing, and fishing in the area. If you come to this resort, you must request Elynei and Joel as your butlers!

If you're into fishing, this is a great resort for it. You must bring your own equipment, but the three beaches offer a variety of fish to get from Red & Yellow Snapper, Barracuda, Jacks, Tarpon, and more. Sea Worms are best used as bait, and the staff will help you grab some (Perdomo is the best at this!). If you like to fish, request Joel as your butler - he knows the best spots and will be very helpful. Snorkeling is great here, but again you must bring your own equipment as they do not provide it.

Overall, I would recommend this resort if you're looking for a very quiet getaway, especially if you're looking to fish. The beaches and entertainment are much less than in other resorts in the area.
