I dragged my family there (including three older kids) as I have always been a stargazer and we were in the area. They were not wild about going but did admit later it was fascinating. Weather did not cooperate so we did not get to view the stars but everyone on site was welcoming and they cleared the parking lot and was open after a major snow. It was cold but we got to see a couple of the large telescopes houses in different buildings. Our tour guide “Victoria” was very knowledgeable and interesting. It is amazing what scientists have done to explore the universe and I’d highly recommend .... cannot imagine how great it would be in a clear observation viewing night! Gift shop has awesome gifts for any kids or adults interested in space!

This place was too structured. You would have to be there at 10:00 in the morning until 6:00 at night to hear all the talks. You can't look at anything. All the doors are locked. It was a total waste of money

Thanks for your review! We're sorry to hear that you were disappointed by your visit to the observatory. Going on tours and attending talks is the best way to experience the observatory, but we also have scheduled open houses at various buildings throughout the day. The Giovale Open Deck Observatory has various exhibits to view on the plaza, even when the observation deck is closed. If you have any further feedback, please feel free to reach out to us at info@lowell.edu. We hope you come back to visit the observatory in the future so that we can provide an experience that exceeds your expectations.

We enjoyed seeing the telescopes and the buildings that house them. The presentations are interesting. The views of Flagstaff during the day and at night are really lovely.

We got to see a talk on the telescope that discovered Pluto then explored the new observatory area. Part of the building opens up on a track for several telescopes. Even when it's not open there are interesting educational displays to check out. They had a solar viewing program scheduled but it got cancelled because it was a really cloudy day. There is a really nice gift shop. I want to go back for some evening events.

Whether or not you and your guests enjoy science is immaterial here. The staff here makes learning about our solar system fun and understandable. My wife and I had a blast here. I would recommend star gazing at night, but I'm sure any time of the day is fine to visit.
