Maybe we had a bad experience, but this place was a complete let down. The gift shop was excellent, and the staff was friendly and polite. But that was about it. They need to visit other touristic places and learn from them, to make this place more appealing. The “solar program”, OMG what is that?!?! They should/could have some posters about the sun, some additional explanation, even if what you see on the telescope is limited and the way it is now, you don’t say more than 5 min there. The timing of other events is not coordinated and there is a lot of waiting and nothing to read or see…

Once again needed more time to totally enjoy the observatory. The lectures were informative and the telescopes really opened my eyes to the stars and planets

We took groupon for the entry and staff here was very friendly. You can go on 2 hrs tour of the place and it was full of details about planets and history of this place. We visited on Monday and tour starts around 11 am. You can also explore on your own but tour was worth. Also you can have great view of flagstaff area from there.

This was the most amazing experience!! I have just always wanted to go to the Lowell Observatory - and there was a good deal on tickets on Groupon some time back like 2 for 1 or something - so I bought them - and then we were getting to the time when they weren't going to be good anymore and I Thought - heck no I'm not going to miss this! So we picked a day and said that's it - we're going and it happened to be this day when Charles Simonyi was there and WHAT A TOTAL THRILL!! Look this guy up - not just an astronaut - twice - but also a software genius! I still can't believe our luck! He was so gracious - Rusty and I were just gobsmacked! We can't stop talking about how wonderful it was to see him speak and see his family and we got to ask several questions - I could ask him a million more and would still have more to ask - just so grateful that we got to ask any. First time off type thing we've done in a VERY long time and it was just overnight but SO FUN!! and what are the chances?? I mean I had no idea this guy would be there - it was just luck! I highly recommend you checking out the observatory - they have cool stuff going on all the time -the gift shop is actually super reasonable and they have really fun stuff there - we definitely plan to go back. It's worth the trip! OH - and they also let you look through the big telescope up there - and there's tons of other stuff to do and see as well - IT'S TOTALLY AWESOME!

We live in Flagstaff and got a membership. We got to see Saturn and its rings from a telescope on the new observation deck. It's pretty dark here so wear good footwear so you don't trip. They have lectures during the evening too that are inside. Definitely recommend!
