This was our second time at the Melia Cayo Coco, and the fact that we returned says a lot. We were not disappointed. The beach and the sea are superb, and the beach bar is well supplied. On our last day, we watched a Euro 2024 match at the beach bar and sipped cava. It was a windy day and the bar was closing for the day, but that didn't affect the service. In December 2022 we watched the final of the FIFA World Cup at the same location. Something to never forget.
Otherwise, the food was good, with no shortage of fresh fruit and vegetables, and cheese. Things mostly absent at other resorts. No problem with the drinks, including good quality Spanish cava. Also, they have condiments! Mustard, ketchup, olive oil, vinegar, unlike other resorts. We were super happy with the service as well. Friendly people, always willing to go the extra mile to get mint for your mojito and to make your custom cocktail.
They repainted the tennis courts, but we didn't play due to the heat and a case of bad back on my part.
The shows were great, as usual, except they were all in the lobby, where the sound is not that great, not in the theater (which they covered, yay!). Yeah, a tiled floor is not the best surface for dancers to perform on.
So all good, and we hope to go there again after the renovations, which are scheduled to start on July 1st. They have big plans, and we hope the renovations won't take longer than the planned 3 months.
Advice for smokers (we like to puff on vacations): don't count on buying them there because they don't sell cigarettes at the resort anymore. You'd have to take a taxi or walk to a nearby market to buy smokes. So be prepared.
One more thing: don't tip coins. Or, if you do, change them into bills periodically. Otherwise, they will come to people like us to change them. The wife left with approximately a pound of toonies and loonies. Because she was nice. Coins are not very useful and maybe you get a good feeling for tipping coins, but they can't exchange coins at the bank, either Canadian coins or euro coins. Tip US dollars. Get a few dollar bills for your first day, and also get bigger bills that they will be happy to break into dollar bills for you.
So, another great vacation at the Melia Cayo Coco, and we'd definitely like to go back! Let's hope for good health. I'm looking forward to reading the reviews of the renovated resort!
