Review of Melia Cayo Coco
Reviewed 2 weeks agovia mobile
Wife and I have been to MCC 9 times before. We were aware of the renovation shutdown well in advance, and anticipated a gradual diminishing of services and amenities. Mistakenly, we chose the 'other' 5* all adult inclusive resort on Cayo Coco to celebrate our 16th wedding anniversary during the last week of June 2024.
Stupid us, we were wrong on two accounts. After 2 days of torture we demanded to be transferred to MCC. We now fully understand why we repeated so many times to the best hospitality, level of service, beach and culinary choices Cuba offers. Although the occupancy was light (<130 people at most) during the last week before shutdown, all the staff we interacted with maintained the professionalism to ensure our expectations were met.
Here's hoping the next 3 months affords them the opportunity to complete the planned improvements. We'll definitely return as soon as they are capable of accepting guests.

Dear damgr8,
We would like to thank you for allowing us to have your excellent travel comments. It's so wonderful to hear about your dedication to our hotel Melia Cayo Coco, especially after 9 previous visits. It speaks a lot that you were willing to switch resorts mid-trip to experience the familiar comfort and quality of MCC.
We can imagine the disappointment you felt during those first two days at the other resort, especially when celebrating such a special anniversary. It's great that you were able to get back in our resort and enjoy the kind of service and atmosphere you've come to expect.
It's also nice to know that the staff maintain their professionalism even during a time of lighter occupancy. It is a proof of the dedication and commitment of our team. We are sure they'll use these next few months wisely to complete the improvements.
We are excited to welcome you again after the renovations. Do not hesitate to contact us in advance for any matter.
Receive warm greetings,
Bernardo García González,
General Manager

My wife and visited Melia Cayo Coco the first week of May and had a wonderful stay.
Our second time here and it will not be our last.
The staff were friendly and very attentive.
The best and only resort for us to stay.
We were not in want or short of anything despite what we had heard about “Cuba” and other resorts prior to our departure.
Don’t give the Melia Cayo Coco a second thought if this beautiful part of the world is on your short list.

This was our second time at the Melia Cayo Coco, and the fact that we returned says a lot. We were not disappointed. The beach and the sea are superb, and the beach bar is well supplied. On our last day, we watched a Euro 2024 match at the beach bar and sipped cava. It was a windy day and the bar was closing for the day, but that didn't affect the service. In December 2022 we watched the final of the FIFA World Cup at the same location. Something to never forget.

Otherwise, the food was good, with no shortage of fresh fruit and vegetables, and cheese. Things mostly absent at other resorts. No problem with the drinks, including good quality Spanish cava. Also, they have condiments! Mustard, ketchup, olive oil, vinegar, unlike other resorts. We were super happy with the service as well. Friendly people, always willing to go the extra mile to get mint for your mojito and to make your custom cocktail.

They repainted the tennis courts, but we didn't play due to the heat and a case of bad back on my part.

The shows were great, as usual, except they were all in the lobby, where the sound is not that great, not in the theater (which they covered, yay!). Yeah, a tiled floor is not the best surface for dancers to perform on.

So all good, and we hope to go there again after the renovations, which are scheduled to start on July 1st. They have big plans, and we hope the renovations won't take longer than the planned 3 months.

Advice for smokers (we like to puff on vacations): don't count on buying them there because they don't sell cigarettes at the resort anymore. You'd have to take a taxi or walk to a nearby market to buy smokes. So be prepared.

One more thing: don't tip coins. Or, if you do, change them into bills periodically. Otherwise, they will come to people like us to change them. The wife left with approximately a pound of toonies and loonies. Because she was nice. Coins are not very useful and maybe you get a good feeling for tipping coins, but they can't exchange coins at the bank, either Canadian coins or euro coins. Tip US dollars. Get a few dollar bills for your first day, and also get bigger bills that they will be happy to break into dollar bills for you.

So, another great vacation at the Melia Cayo Coco, and we'd definitely like to go back! Let's hope for good health. I'm looking forward to reading the reviews of the renovated resort!

    Dear hunt3rsthompson,
We want to thank you for kindly taking a few minutes of your time to send us your excellents travel comments. It is always a great pleasure for us to count on the return of our regular guests. It's good to know that you continue to have consistent quality and great memories. Your second time at our hotel Meliá Cayo Coco really says a lot. You can't imagine how much it comforts us to know that we didn't disappoint you.
We feel great satisfaction with our beach and its sea, without any doubt this is a dream place. We are very happy to know that you enjoyed it to the fullest, as well as the beach bar and its service. It's good that the beach bar has been the pleasant place that allowed you to enjoy the Euro 2024 match and the FIFA World Cup final in December 2022, truly something to never forget.
It comforts us immensely to know that otherwise everything was fine, the food, the drinks, and even the condiments such as mustard, ketchup, olive oil, vinegar, etc.
Regarding the service and friendliness of the staff, we must recognize that they have always been among our main strengths. There is no doubt that everyone works hard to fulfill customer orders.
We are very pleased to know that you found the facility suitable for all types of activities including tennis. We are also very happy to know that you liked the shows. We wish we could have offered you all in the amphitheater, but unfortunately this is not always possible.
Regarding your advice for smokers, we would like you to know that the stores that offer their services to our hotel guests sell them as long as their suppliers guarantee them. However, we must recognize that the problems with supplies that affect the country make everything very difficult.
Your recommendation for the best way to tip employees is very opportune. You can't really change coins at the bank. Luck will be with you and you will be able to return many more times. Do not hesitate to contact us in advance for any matter.
    Receive warm greetings,
    Bernardo García González,

We returned for 3rd time at the end of June. It was a friend trip. Again we had a wonderful time. The most important thing, which is the good treatment and disposition of the staff, continues to be at number 1. The Prince continues to do a great job approaching guests and making an effort to resolve any problem you may have. The food has really declined a lot, but we went not hungry, anyway we know that they will close the hotel for renovations, and also the occupancy was low and resources are scarce, it is not in their hands, everything is according to the availability from their providers. In general a very good day. The hotel was very clean as always and the beach and pool continue to be their paradise. We plan to return after reopening.

We were not expecting a lot from cuban all inclusive in the post covid, but we almost didn't get any activities at the hotel. Also, we learned when we arrived that the hotel was closing the day after the end of our vacation for renovation during all summer. That means that we didn't have a lot of choices at the buffet, there was nobody. We feel like we didn't live the true experience at this hotel, that is popular and liked by a lot of tourists. One day at the buffet, the man that was cooking the meat did a middle finger to my boyfriend, for no apparent reason. We were really polite with all the staff there and we believe this was completely disrespectful. We didn't get any compensation for any of these inconvenients.

    Dear I_akimd2024,
We are sincerely sorry to know that your stay at our hotel Meliá Cayo Coco did not meet your expectations. We understand your disappointment with the lack of activities and limited options at the buffet, especially given the resort's upcoming closure for renovations. We recognize that this type of situation can affect the overall customer experience. We are constantly working to provide quality service, even during times of transition, and we regret that you have felt these limitations. The disrespectful gesture of one of the employees towards your spouse is unacceptable. We take inappropriate behavior by our staff very seriously and we will investigate this incident and take necessary measures to prevent it from happening again. We understand your frustration at not being able to fully enjoy the Meliá Cayo Coco experience, and we can assure you that if you choose us again for future vacations we will strive to exceed your expectations, so that you can experience a memorable stay. 4th time at the resort.
Although slightly dated, this is the best resort, period.
Service excellent, even with the reduced tourist population. They are closing in July for 3-4 months of renovation, and even with the obvious shutting down of the operations, they still managed to provide great food and service.
The waiters and buffet staff have been great and very helpful (thanks Beatriz, Fermin, and the others whom I forget the names, sorry)
The animation also working hard to motivate the "lazy bums" (thanks, Chocolate Mama, Chino, Andy, Marco, etc..)
Customer service staff also very helpful and always around.
And of course, a great beach.
Internet was not ideal in its usage (they changed the approach), but that is completely outside the resort purview since it is under government control.
All in all, a clean and cozy resort, well managed. A pleasure to return to and the best in Cayo Coco.
Already a bit more expensive, I hope they will not raise prices after the renos.

    Dear salcim_2023,
What a joy to read your excellent comments about your fourth visit to Meliá Cayo Coco! It's wonderful to know that you still consider our hotel the best in Cayo Coco, despite the upcoming renovations. We are proud that you have highlighted the quality of the service, even with the reduction in tourists. It is admirable that, despite limitations, our team has maintained its commitment to excellence. Beatriz, Fermín and the rest of the staff feel very thankful and stimulated for your recognition to their dedication and good work. We are glad you enjoyed the animation and energy of Chocolate Mama, Chino, Andy, Marco and the rest of the team. They enthusiasm is contagious. We also appreciate your recognition of the customer service staff for their kindness and disposition.
The beach is, without any doubt, one of the main attractions of our hotel, and we are pleased that you continue to enjoy it. We understand your observation about the internet connection. It is a service that is beyond our control as it is subject to ETECSA regulations, the only telecommunication company in the country.
We strive to maintain a clean and welcoming environment for our guests, and we are glad to know that you appreciate the hotel's management. We are committed to constantly improving our resort, and we hope that the renovations will make it even more attractive. We understand your concerns about price, and we will do our best to keep our rates competitive. We hope to welcome you back to our hotel soon so you can enjoy the improvements we are implementing. Do not hesitate to contact us in advance for any matter.
    Receive warm greetings,
