“Surprisingly nice in its class….”

Reviewed Aug 13, 2022via mobile
As normal, my reviews are usually based on how a particular hotel or restaurant rates in its class, and against similar competition. In other words, a Hampton Inn isn’t to be compared to say, a Four Seasons. And on that note; Gold Coast Hotel and Casino is not to be compared to The Palazzo, Wynn or The Bellagio, all of which are located on the strip.
Located just a mile west of the strip, on W Flamingo, the location is actually better than expected. One can be on the strip in a 15-20 min walk. So, though not on the strip, it’s not as bad as some of the other comparable hotel casinos.
We were in town to do a show, and needed ample parking for our trucks. So staying on the strip was out either way: That leaves a few select hotels that could accommodate us; and many of these are in rather sketchy areas. GC has a huge parking area in the rear, with easy access and multiple entries. Overall, it’s probably not as large as The Orleans, but certainly a better location in my opinion. And it’s absolutely light yrs better and much safer than the “Wild Wild West Days Inn” on Tropicana(in which I’ll say in bold text, STAY AWAY!”)
The GC exterior seems the same as the day it was built: in other words, old and worn…lol. However, enter inside, and you’ll notice a much improved interior to its humble beginning. The decor still leans classic, but with a touch of modern: And overall actually, quite nice. There’s plenty of gaming, and several restaurants, including a TGIF, which I did not try, and a really good Chinese joint, which I did. The lunch menu was reasonable, and the quality was actually pretty good, if you want Chinese: And they’re open till 3am. Amenities here include a swimming pool(small), and a bowling alley. Neither of which I had time to use… Sorry
Rooms: The rooms here have been updated with a fresh remodel at some point recently. A new Flatscreen tv, and a modern wardrobe add to the details. Note: I was one floor from the top, which can be tricky for battling the Vegas heat, for many hotel A/C systems. However, the unit in my room was more than adequate at keeping things chilled down(That one surprised me). The bathroom has all new tile, and a small window for some ventilation(nice touch). Water pressure was really good, but temperature wasn’t easy to adjust at first; but no deal breaker. Overall, the room was clean, modern enough, and the beds was decent for this price range.
The service here was surprisingly good(I’ve read this before, and in many places, from those who have stayed at many of the Boyd properties). Everyone was extra friendly, and made the extra effort to make one feel welcomed. So, while not a Four Seasons, you’ll have no worries.
Wrapping it up: Overall, this is a good choice for the money; and certainly has ample parking for big rigs, motor homes or other. The proximity to the Vegas strip is adequate, and uber and Lyft pick up right at the front door…. Believe me, that isn’t the case for most of Las Vegas.
As mentioned, the value is here: Sometimes you don’t get what you pay for, but here, you actually do. Now honestly, if you’re visiting Vegas for a romantic weekend, or wanna impress your loved ones, I’d opt to stay on the strip, and spend the extra money.
But if you’re out here for work, and maybe need the use of that big free parking area, Gold Coast is actually a solid choice. And it’ll do for most anyone that is on a budget, and just wants to avoid the hustle n bustle of the strip. Considering he room remodel, and friendly service, it’ll do just fine. Just go in knowing, this isn’t meant to be a 5 star resort…. Enjoy

very nice property. Well staffed and managed. Even went to the bar at the back of the casino and was waited on right away with a smile! Room was nice and security did a good job at the elevators. TGIF restaurant was good for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can't go wrong staying at the Gold Coast!

Room tip: the closer to the elevators the more noise but the back rooms can be a good walk

Very nice dealers and other staff. Well lit and clean casino floor. I saw people coming around very often and cleaning machines and other contact surfaces. I felt safe and welcome when I played a poker tournament at the Gold Coast.

Gold Coast is my new favorite Vegas hotel. Everyone was super friendly. I arrived early and wanted to check in my bags until it was check in time The front desk person asked my name and said my room was ready and I could check in right away with no early check in fee. This was at 10 in the morning. There is security to check your room key to make sure you are staying there. Super friendly. Always asked how I was doing and welcome back and good luck, have a great day and so on Waitresses super friendly. Food at Cornerstone was amazing. The pool is small but not overcrowded so that was nice. Room was nice. Bed was so comfortable. Only downsize was, no more shuttle to the strip. Was only a 10-dollar cab ride there, so that wasn't really a big deal at all. Even the dealers were great. Definitely one of the best stays i've ever had.

My husband lost his wallet at this casino. Was found by security and brought to lost and found. They gave us pointers on connecting his phone number to his players card. Will go back. And be thankful for honest security.

What a gem! We've stayed at the Gold Coast many times never eating at the Cornerstone. What a mistake. The food and beverages are fabulous. Our waiter, Paul was a young go getter. The house white wine was surprisingly good
