When my fiancée & I arrived on a Friday night at about 1 am, we were looking forward to a fairly easy check in as we were both pretty tired from a long day of traveling, but we were sadly mistaken. In an email that I got prior to our stay, it said that we could use the express check in at a kiosk, but when we got to the kiosk, it instructed me that I would need to see someone at the front desk. The line to check in at the front desk was stretching out onto the casino floor which is what I believe the kiosk was there to prevent. After waiting a little over 30 minutes in line we finally got to the front desk to check in. After giving the young lady my information for my reservation, she responded by telling me that it looks like I booked online (with expedia) and everything was paid except my deposit, and resort fee both totaling to a little under $300. I already anticipated the deposit, but I explained to her that I was not notified that there would be an additional resort fee due when we got there. She said “yes that is mandatory in Nevada” she was very nice, so I didn’t give her a hard time about it, and I just took the extra charge she then tells me that they were sold out of king bed suites (what I booked the reservation for), and only had 2 queen bed suites, but we accepted the room. After leaving the front desk we were ready to just grab something to eat and go to the room, so we tried to find a place for food, but nearly everything was closed. We went to one of the only places open called “sports deli”, and tried to order a full cheese pizza. The lady that we tried to place the order with said that they only had 3 slices of supreme left. I said we don’t mind waiting for a new pizza to cook, and she said we are not serving any more pizza tonight, only what’s left. At this point it was almost 2 in the morning, but the hours for the restaurant were until 6am, meaning that they weren’t making pizzas for the last 4 hours that they would be open. Hungry and tired, we ordered chicken strips and mozzarella sticks that both were not very appetizing. When we got to the room one of the first thing that I noticed was the dark brown piece of duct tape on the carpet that looked like it was covering up a rip in the carpet. Before bed, I went to the bathroom and after washing my hands I noticed the sound of water running onto the floor. There was a huge puddle on the surface of the sink, and I found out that when you turn the water on, water leaks out of the handle.

Our room, though spacious, was furnished with threadbare towels, 2 bars of soap, 1 travel size hand lotion and one shampoo/conditioner. No coffee maker, Kleenex, no extra blankets/pillows…. Many of the venues in the hotel were shuttered or had very limited hours, eg., breakfast place, salon. Not many bells dinging from slots, either. Thank goodness Penn and Teller were entertaining and the comics at Comedy Cellar were very funny.

Upgraded to the suites and, although they are large, they have outdated and badly worn features. Furniture is in terrible shape, cabinets broken, appliances missing pieces, wallpaper peeling off walls, carpet badly worn and stained. Looks like they last touched the rooms 15 years ago. AND check-in was a complete disaster. Long lines and express check-in kiosks did not work. Even promised us a $100 credit that never showed up.

Room tip: Need to look elsewhere if your room quality is a concern.

Update on my horrible previous review of the Rio.... They ended up charging me a late fee taking it out of my deposit after the manager guaranteed it free of charge, the front desk staff member reconfirmed it was free of charge when he was giving me new keys. WELL they charged me the late fee and only partially refunded me the money. There is no getting through to the front desk because both "hotel" number the reservation line gives you redirect you to the off shore out of the county agents. They will not give you a direct front desk number. They give you a billing number 866-209-4732 that is not taking calls that tells you to email them on cesars.com which they do not respond to. I called back to the reservations line and told them I left some items in my room and needed the direct phone number to the hotel security desk to check lost and found. They gave me a direct line 702-777-7666! I called and said I was trying to get transferred to the front desk and they transferred me and they are refunding my money. So for anyone that needs to get something done and needs to talk to the front desk call that number and say you need to get transferred to the front desk. I hope this helps anyone who has gone through the nightmare I have and for anyone one else DO NOT STAY at this hotel.

Check in kiosk we’re not working line to check in and out the entire stay was so long it went from the front desk pass the sports book with only 3 front desk staff working. Phone in the room will not go to the front desk but to agents across the world overseas and they refuse to transfer you to the front desk. Did not put late check in into the computer after talking to a manger and a second time to a front desk staff keys stopped working , housekeeper was knocking to come in while I was having sex because front desk manager forgot to put late check out. Had to wait over an hour to check in and to check out. Tv was so out dated and didn’t work properly room was very outdated. Supposedly they upgrade our room to strip view only because they ran out of king beds which I paid for so I ended up getting an updated old room in the old tower with two queen beds and the “strip view”. The front desk Manger could care less than I was upset and complaining about even though I did it in a professional manner he looked at me with an annoyed face. Assistant casino manager I tried talking to could tell he could care less about my complaints not one called a general manger of higher supervisor so I could talk to. I talked with 27 other guest and they all experienced the same if not worst and the hotel and hotel staff did nothing… they had no water or no hot water, ceiling leaking from fire sprinkler, tv not working, ac not working, a naked man was running down the hallway. This hotel is a complete joke it is old and run down and the staff are unfriendly and look like they hate their job. Never will I ever stay here for work or personal. You will get better service from a motel 6. This was a good date of $349 for 2 nights
