Pennsylvania

Do Vegas right, or don't do it at all.

Reviewed Jul 27, 2023
We used our United Credit Card frequent flier miles and flew United to Vegas for $28 from Pennsylvania.

We stay at the Horseshoe primarily because we love the 12-foot-deep Blu Pool. The daily average temp for our 8-day (July 12-21) stay was 115 degrees, so we did the pool daily. It does not rank in the top 10 Vegas pools because it is a simple family-friendly pool (during the day), but it is probably the deepest in Vegas and it is never really crowded. Admission seems to be free for everyone. There are 4 lifeguards but only after 10:30 AM. The pool opens at 9:00 AM but you cannot swim in the deep end until 10:30 when all 4 lifeguards are present. I did not like that, but we adjusted our schedule to make it there. A frozen drink was $32 for a medium-sized and it melted in 5 minutes in the extreme Mojave Desert heat. Most of the days played nice 80's music. One of the days played filthy music that used profanity and the N-word and the F-word, which we did not feel was appropriate with children in the pool. Several guests commented about that. I try to make allowances for the younger generation, but this was still not appropriate "music" with young children in earshot. The only reason we did not give a 5-star rating for this trip was because of this and the fact that the full pool opening is delayed by 1.5 hours each day.

We are Diamond members, so our 8-day stay was only $221.00 total for the whole trip. We booked about 40 days early and do not have to pay the $39/night resort fees or any of the $25+ per use parking fees. I felt we got a very good deal. Our check-in was quick and easy. They have a very nice VIP check-in room so you can skip the lines, use the computers and printers, and get free drinks anytime you want.

The WSOP tournament was going on in this casino while we were here. We only gambled 2 days here ($300 "donated" to the cause). The table limits are much better at the Ellis Island Casino in the block behind The Horseshoe ($5 Blackjack).

Ellis Island also has a $9.99 steak and eggs breakfast which we ate every day. We ended up using our $100 Diamond meal credit at Caesars Buffet, but that buffet is overrated and overpriced compared to Cosmopolitan's. We ate at the restaurants in the basement, but they were not cheap. We usually go to Smiths or Target on the first day here and stock up on food to last us during the trip. On the last day, we walk out on the strip and give our leftover food to the homeless. Doing this saves us lots of money on the pricey food bill.

The Vegas traffic is horrible due to the F1 street construction. Hopefully it will be better by this time next year when we return. Obviously, this is not the fault of the Horseshoe. We rented a car and do not regret it, but we did not have as much fun driving around as in the past because of the traffic. The car rental was the most expensive part of the trip ($389 total).

Our room was remodeled, clean, and quiet. We are picky about such things and were very pleased. The maid gave us lots of extra toiletries, towels, and blankets that we asked for. (Tipping generously helps.)

We had a nice good inexpensive vacation and really enjoyed the Horseshoe and will certainly return again on our annual Vegas pilgrimage.

Came for my 50th birthday. Had an upgraded room with an excellent room. Everything was as good as expected. I will be back. Staff were excellent all around. Visit the Syage Door bar next door. 2 hotdogs + 2 beers for $6.50 taxes in. :)

We started out so excited we were offered an upgrade to the "townhomes" non-smoking area at a very fair price due to our rewards status but as soon as we entered the "townhouse" it was penetrated with the odor of marijuana so strong it was as if someone smoking in there had just left! This was the non smoking area of resort! We had to call front desk on 3 separate occasions to come refresh our room for the same problem and overnight was the worst with this issue...one of the times I complained they sent security knocking on our door asking us if we were smoking and we had to remind the security personnel that WE were the ones who called in the complaint it was obvious what room it was coming from because they had towels shoved under the door and they did nothing...weird because they knocked on our door...then our card was declined and instead of calling us so we can go fix the issue they locked our guest out of the room and treated him so badly at desk when he went to inquire about the key although he was clearly added to the room as a guest manager defended employee my guest told him to review camera so he could see employee was clearly out of line but he did nothing walked to the back and said he would speak to me when I arrived when I arrived to resolve the problem with card manager never came out....I was made to feel like I did something wrong like I was trying to scam or steal...I have stayed here a few times purchased show tickets, ate at their restaurants rented a poolside cabana gambled there our entire stay had 3 other family members stay there as well only to end up disappointed and having to apologize to my family for their experience...we will never stay at horseshoe/Bally's Las Vegas again.

The hotel did not looked like it was renovated at all. The rooms was dirty and stained all over the hotel. It looked like it has bed bugs infestation. You could see the stain on the walls, curtains, and hallways. I would NOT recommend.

Horrible experience. Multiple issues with room assignment and faulty room keys. First we were given the wrong room and had to wait a day to get the correct room. Then we got locked out of our room multiple times and had to stand in long lines to speak to someone or remake room keys. Hotel management was not very helpful. This was our 4th time staying at this hotel (all previous times were great) but we will never stay here again, the experience was that horrible.

Room tip: Stay somewhere else
