The only way to explain WestGate is that it’s not THAT bad, until it was that bad. First let’s get the obvious out of the way; if you’re paying money to stay here, for as much money as one would pay to stay here, you’d expect free wifi right? Nah, that’s an owner amenity; however, if you decide to sit through the sales presentation, you’ll be able to receive all of the owner amenities for free. The internet service through your carrier is pretty much non existent on the resort (we have Verizon), so you’re forced to pay to use the resort’s wifi or sit through the presentation which gave access to wifi and more amenities. The wifi connection is absolutely hit or miss and more times than not, it’s a definite miss. We complained about the wifi and went so far as to try and trouble shoot with WG’s tech support to see if the issue was on our end. The end result? Tech support could do nothing but apologize as we followed all their steps to ensure the issue was not on our end. If you have any thing of importance to do that requires an internet connection, do not plan to work in the comfort of your room. So we spent a week at WG with pretty much no internet; it’s not the end of the world but surely a huge inconvenience, especially if you planned on being productive on vacation. The second issue came after our laundry room door came unscrewed and off the track. We let WG know about the issue and also informed them we prefer to be present while it’s repaired. Due to scheduling conflicts, we were unable to get the door repaired immediately; instead, we scheduled a time in the evening for the following day (10:30pm) for WG to make the repair. I ended up waiting up for 2hrs only to get hit with a “no call, no show” from WG maintenance. The following day, WG decided to step their game up and be really proactive. WG maintenance even went so far as to ignore the “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door, ignore our request to be present for the repair, and made entry to our room without our knowledge (thankfully we were present to maintenance’s surprise). I was in the shower when maintenance attempted to enter our room. Thankfully, the secondary door lock/latch was on so it prevented him from entering. I didn’t know who was trying to gain entry as we had the “DND” sign up and WG maintenance missed our 10:30pm service call the night before. I race to the front door in nothing but a towel only to find it was WG maintenance! Not a good look Westgate! If that experience wasn’t bad enough, the second issue was that the water in the shower was set to two choices: 1) uncomfortably hot/simmer or 2) boil like the seafood you came to FL to enjoy. No cold showers, no cool showers; only boil and simmer. Seeing as how our previous experience with maintenance went, we elected to deal with “simmering”. The final issue came on the day we checked out. Checkout was at 10:00am and we’re packing up our belongings when around 9:30am I hear a knock at the door. It’s housekeeping, looking to get started on cleaning the room; I inform them we are packing up and checking out at 10am. They acknowledge this and continue to the next room. We continue packing, transporting things to our vehicle. About fifteen minutes later, we are making our final trip back to the room to do our final check and gather my wife’s purse, jewelry, and my wallet. To our surprise, the cleaning crew is already dismantling our room and beginning the cleaning process. Mind you, it’s not even 10:00AM when all of this happens, which was our checkout time. It’s a bit unsettling to walk into your room and find that there are strangers alone with your valuables; not a good look Westgate!
