The resort is merging with the neighbouring property, the Worthington which is disappointing as the Worthington is a high sex property and attracts a very different crowd to the Grand Resort. We stayed one time at the Worthington some 4 years ago because the Grand Resort was full, never to be repeated! There is a pathway and gate currently under construction to connect the two properties. The office in the Grand Resort is to become the office for the combined property, which will mean the tranquil pool area will see a constant stream of people arriving at busy times.
Breakfast is now just 7 til 10 ( not 11) and the new owners have scrapped the hot food at breakfast so the food on offer is very basic and unappetising. Gone are the coffee/tea mugs replaced by disposable polystyrene cups. Metal cutlery replaced by the cheapest plastic disposable cutlery. Hardly environmentally friendly!
The rooms are no longer serviced or cleaned daily. Clean towels can be requested but you have to make your bed and empty trash. We did protest about this and requested that the bed be made daily and the floor cleaned, which was agreed to. In-room coffee mugs were not replaced daily, just left dirty in the room.
There is no longer a liquor license so the property cannot sell beer or wine, which again is very disappointing. The liquor prices are still advertised in the club room. By all accounts the new owners have deliberately let this license lapse.
The number of sunbeds around the pool has been reduced due to new sunbeds not being ordered. The external breakfast tables have been removed from poolside, disappointing again.
Reception which used to be 24 hours is now closed from around 8pm.
The weekly social now takes place in the Worthington next door.
None of the changes have been communicated to guests in advance of their stay, which just goes to show that the new owners don’t give a monkey’s about their loyal guests.
We have been coming to the Grand Resort for more than 20 years but I really do think that this will be our last visit, which is a shame.
We are led to believe that the new owners have purchased both properties primarily for the real estate value and perhaps have different plans for the site in the future.
Be mindful that Grand Resort did achieve all the accolades in the past but the experience is now very different to how it once was.
Frankly the resort is now akin to an average Airbnb!
