A perfect place to spend a weekend!

Reviewed May 31, 2024
We stayed at the Carmel Mission Inn as part of a wedding hotel block, and from the rooms themselves, to their dining room for the rehearsal dinner and farewell brunch, to the helpful people at the front desk and in the lobby, everything and everyone was wonderful. The events team made it smooth to set up the hotel block, the dining team was super clear working with us on guests' food allergies, and everything ran flawlessly. A perfect place to spend the wedding weekend!

Great place, located 7 min drive from downtown Carmel by the sea and less than 1 mile from lobos trail.

Beautiful area, great hotel with parking, hot tub, pool, and amazing breakfast food options.

My partner and I liked being a bit away from the busy downtown area.

Easily recommend!

From check in to check out everything was perfect! The room was very clean and the hot tub was a welcome relaxation at the end of the day. The beds were very comfortable and the total black out shade let us sleep in. I appreciated the numerous outlets so everything could be plugged in to charge. We will return!

Room tip: Try From Scratch in the Barnyard for a delicious breakfast!

We live in Monterey and for the first time in 38 years we needed to find a dog friendly hotel to stay in! Our house was being tented for termites and we had to be off the property for 72 hours. We are not “travel with your golden retriever” people so when the Carmel mission Inn was recommended to me, I called and made a reservation. It is expensive to stay in Carmel and both my husband and myself felt this was a more reasonable price point. One week before our stay i went by to check out the property. Trevell, the young man at the desk asked one of his colleagues to man the front desk and proceeded to take me on a tour, explaining the pros and cons of each location where pets were allowed. He was so helpful and friendly! Really nice to experience since customer service is at an all time low in the United States at the moment. During our stay everyone was very friendly and helpful. We walked to dinner the first night, and made the short drive to downtown Carmel for dinner the second night. This would be a very easy Uber ride. The hotel is a bit old but clean. You can also walk across the street to the Crossroads shopping center for dinner or lunch. Our older golden was fine in the hotel as he has spent many years traveling up to Tahoe and staying in ski leases or hotels, but the three year old did not like being in a hotel at all. Every noise made her nervous, she is a very gentle timid puppy! The property was clear of pet waste with the exception of a few places. I felt like most pet owners were pretty responsible. This is a great location to launch from if you are hoping to explore Big Sur and point Lobos state park. I am certain that you can pay a lot more for a stay in Carmel but honestly if you are bound for Carmel and plan to spend your days exploring this is a great choice. I felt like anything I asked for was accommodated. Great staff!

Room tip: Lots of parking, easy to find, ask to be in the back bc there will be less noise from highway 1.

We only stayed one night, but absolutely loved our time at the Carmel Mission Inn, and will definitely be back here any time we're in the area. First off, the location is fantastic — just walking distance from local boutiques, coffee and a grocery store right across the street in Carmel Valley. But the true magic of this place is the friendliness and kindness of the staff, and all the little details. For us, it was everything from the wooden room keys with sweet little messages to the postcards offered in the lobby, the spacious outdoor seating area, the luxury toiletries, soft towels and robes, and absolute stellar cleanliness and upkeep! The staff was so friendly, accommodating and kind. Every single person we encountered was smiling and sweet! In the past, we've always stayed at little B&Bs when we've visited the area, but Carmel Mission Inn is definitely THE place to go, and we'll be staying here on every trip back in the future : )

Hotel decor is modern and cute. But until checked in, we realized that at least some rooms, including ours, were akin to motel. Location wise - it's steps away from the Barnyard which in itself seems very nice. Back to the hotel - sheets are old. Worst part - our bathroom had a strong sewage smell that got worse by the day. By the 3rd night (our last night), it got so bad that when we came back and walked in, we were hit by this smell. It's our last night and we were exhausted from our day so we thought we'd just deal with it. Upon checking out, I reported the issue to the front desk. Instead of apologizing for this issue and to make it right in the future, the immediate response was why didn't you tell us earlier? Why waited until the last minute? When I expressed that response was not helpful. The response was then oh I am sorry you took it the wrong way. All told with an attitude. To me, a sewage problem at a hotel is never new and the hotel usually has knowledge about it. Even if not, the room cleaning team would certainly know about it before hand.
