Nice Stay, Noisy Neighbors and Room Location Could Have Been Better

Reviewed Apr 3, 2021
We booked this hotel for 2 nights through Expedia. First night for $40.00 less than 2nd night. When I questioned the price difference, the front desk told me that it is based upon availability. Mind you, we stayed Weds and Thursday. We were placed on the ground floor in the back parking lot. When I asked for a room change, I was told there were none available. Next time- I will book direct with the hotel. The room was cute, clean and had a retro feel. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom is small and when showering, the tub filled up with water. The walls are thin, so I recommend bringing ear plugs. This is a dog friendly hotel and there were a lot of them! The pool area looked nice. Be forewarned there is construction to the restaurant and front of the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the inside of the hotel and not the back lot.

Very nice and easy walking distance to restaurants and stores and not to far from Carmel beach. Cannery row was about 15mins away which is also a plus. Good amount of stores and restaurants within walking distance.

Wonderful hotel, centrally located within Carmel. Many great restaurants within short walking distance. Rooms are spacious. Fun vibe and pretty grounds. The reasons why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, slow internet that isn’t easy to connect with an iPhone or iPad; our bed had two deep indentions with a pretty solid raised lump in the middle, lastly the sitting area with the fire pit, shown in the pictures was under construction. We weren’t aware of this when we booked, although it was probably mentioned somewhere on the hotel’s website. In saying this, we’d absolutely stay here again both with the kids and without. The ladies at the front desk informed us that the current renovations will be done in mid to later June, I bet it will look quite nice...like the rest of the hotel.

Thank you for your feedback and we are so glad you had a nice stay. We will be adding filtered water systems to every floor in June and the rest of the hotel will be re-opened including the spa and restaurant. By the way in less then two weeks the hotel will have a fiber connection and we will have fantastic Wi-Fi and the renovation will be completed June with a fantastic courtyard with four firepits. We hope you will return to see all of the wonderful changes.

Visited this property in August before starting the year as a Teacher (couple) -this is the only place my professor husband would allow us to stay since they had sanitation down -and wow, on-site wine tasting! We returned this Spring break 2021-there was no on-site food, no wine tasting. :( Yet, excellent food places close by (always check the DAILY special @ Mtn Mikes) - -and walking across the street to Safeway, SeaHarvest, RGBurgers, or IT tacos was excellent). The pool on Sunday was warm & delightful -swam 30+ min - delighted to be in SUN & by the pool. This is an excellent family hotel -no one's children were unsupervised at pools, all animals on leash. As the 3 days lasted the pool got colder - so who knows. Our room was the first off the elevator and was a tad noisy, but it was relaxing, and we slept great after hiking down to the Carmel beach (<-beautiful white sand+sunny!) We will come back -hopefully the water purifier in the main hotel will be fixed, you get extra steps to use the filter by the Front Desk! But still good filtered water on site!

We booked three identical rooms at the same time. However this hotel (Motel-6 should be more appropriate name, based on experience) charged us $127.41 extra for one of the rooms, we brought this to the attention of the front office, they told us that only a manager can fix it. We went to front office several times, until we could see a manager. Manager was the rudest person I have met in my recent memory, she told us point blank, "do what you want, this charge is not changing". This is just roadside robbery, I was expecting better from $300 a night stay.

The hotel room service did not come to service the room even after two requests. We had to reuse our towels on second day.

I agree with other guest comments. The hotel walls are paper thin, I could not go to sleep till 2 pm on night, because a TV was on till early morning in one of the rooms, two rooms away. I finally had to knock on that room. Any time someone knocks your neighbors door, you have to go check outside, because it feels like someone is knocking on your door, that is how poor the sound absorption is in this hotel.

The pictures online are deceiving, the beds seem much smaller than standard queen and king beds.

If you want to save your trip look elsewhere, this hotel is being run in less than honest way.

Room tip: Do not stay here.

This trip to Carmel was a scouting trip for a family vacation and a friend who is planning a trip to the area. I can honestly say I won't be back. Check-in was unfriendly and awkward, my room was NOTHING like the images on the internet, my eyes started itching the minute I entered the room. No matter what I asked for the front desk told me "oh, you're in that type of room, sorry we can't do that for you". When I asked for a dog bowl since it was listed as one of the amenities I got a startled response. The bedding was so old and sad, my sheets were way too large for the bed and wadded up in one corner. Luckily I had a travel down comforter in my car and used that to sleep with. I understand things may be off due to COVID but it felt like more than that. There is a lack of hospitality training at the front desk. Not that anyone is rude, it was just a strange lack of enthusiasm or interest. I also called about the back doors by my room with a metal plaque saying the doors would be locked after 9pm. I called twice and nothing was done and no follow up call. I saw one of the maintenance guys who explained that the doors don't lock. WTH? Take the plaque down or why not just explain that when I called? I wrote a detailed letter to the manager and spoke to the assistant manager who told me the manager was just going to give it to her. What does that mean? Does he even read these comments? I never received a response and even followed up with a phone call. On a good note the grounds are very beautifully maintained and the selection of plants is spot on. Really nice grounds. I only wish that type of attention was made with my room. There were two people at the front desk who were actually attentive and one of them appeared to like dogs. There is an illuminated sign at the entrance welcoming dogs but it was never updated while I was there and even though I filled out the form with my dog's name on it, never saw that welcome note which I think my dog noticed. It also didn't help that it was so rainy and dark the 2 days I was there so I didn't expect to spend as much time in my room as I did but still, ugh. While in Carmel I found 2 other options at places where the reception desk was warm, welcoming and enthusiastic and actually looked at me when we spoke. Suggestion: Time for new bedding starting with the flat sad, "comforter", pillow shams and sheets. Lastly what is up with the loud annoying heat/air system that needs upgrading to something cleaner and more modern?
