My family had a wonderful 2022 family vacation at Royalton Splash. It was our first trip to Punta Cana. We had always gone to Cancun in years past but the weather in Cancun for the month of June wasn't great. The weather all week in Punta Cana was perfect.

Overall, I can recommend this resort and it was a good value. I; however, will provide some details with recommendations, which may not make it a first choice for others under certain conditions.

We selected the Splash primarily for their large waterpark. The waterpark was great. It has many slides and a good sized wave pool, which my son loved.

We also upgraded to the Diamond Club based on recommendations I read on Trip Advisor. I am so grateful that we did. I'm not sure if we would have enjoyed our time as much without it. Our butler Edwin was fantastic! He was essential to getting all of the dinner reservations that we wanted. It also provided access to everything at the sister property Royalton Casino. That was important in avoiding some of the limitations of the resort I will be discussing.

The resort is older. The checkin area was very basic. We are use to 5 star resorts and worried about the quality of the resort based on that first impression. The buildings are 3 floors with NO ELEVATORS. We were lucky to be on the first floor. We are all healthy and, if on a higher floor, it would not a been a big issue. However, we saw families with strollers having to carry those up and down the flight of stairs, which would have been a hassle. We saw one family where a member had bad knees or other mobility issue. The entire family was assisting them down the stairs. I can't imagine doing that multiple times per day. If any member has mobility issues, you need to insist on a first floor room.

The beach is over at the sister Royalton. The two properties are not directly connected. There is a private road that connects the two. It is approximately 10 minutes walk between them. Its a beautiful walk with wildlife. Going back to my comments above if any family member has mobility issues that will be a problem. There is a shuttle which runs between the two but its inconsistent and can become full. For us in good health and beautiful walk, we just walked over as that was more predictable arrival time.

The main shows are over at the other resort. The gym and fitness classes is also located there. The shows were good. I used the gym multiple times and kickboxing classes. The gym was well equipped. The kickboxing classes were near the pool, which was fun. If you are into fitness, this resort will have what you need. The beach is over at the other Royalton too. Splash is inland, which made sense as their focus isn the waterpark so why be right next to the beach. One has to plan for the fact it will take 10 minutes to get there and then back, 20 minutes total, to your day to do either of those. Again not a big issue for us that week but could be for someone else.

The summer is their low season, which is nice as crowds are lower; however, this isn't true on the weekends. Splash is weekend vacation destination for the local DR residents. Lines are longer everywhere. Since we were diamond, we spent the weekend at the pools and restaurants over there, where it was much less crowded. Then during the week (Mon-Thu) at the Splash. Mon-Thu the crowds were much less and we could for example on the waterslides go on them over and over again with almost no wait. If one wasn't Diamond and had to deal with the crowds on the weekend that could diminish their experience.

The restaurants at Splash are fine. This is where again Diamond status was important to us. The better food is over at the other Royalton. Only Diamond Splash has access to all of them and it was worth the walk over

If an upgrade to the Diamond club is in your family's budget, I would encourage you to do so. It may not be for all but then make sure to adjust your expectations based on my comments above.

Again overall, my family had a great time. I have no regrets choosing the Splash for our 2022 vacation.
