My two friends and I (mid-20s, F) stayed on the Select side for 7 nights.

Pros:

Select: The Select side is quiet and well-maintained. The food at Hermann’s is the best on the resort and the service is excellent. The Select reception is extremely helpful and kind.

Staff: The staff is very friendly and helpful! We had such a great time making friends with the staff. The entertainment team (animación) works very hard and creates such a fun experience for guests! We were always happy to see members of the entertainment team during the day and at night at Calipso.

Food and drinks: At the bars, there are a variety of drink options. We really enjoyed the Food Corner as well as the wraps and sandwiches during snack time.

Spa: The massage experience was excellent and very affordable. We had deep tissue and relaxing massages followed by champagne in the jacuzzi.

Cons:

Select: The Select side is meant for adults only but this is not monitored closely. It isn’t very clear where the Select side ends and begins. Sometimes we would see kids on the beach and at the pool, but staff. It takes away from the “exclusive” experience. Additionally, our Select room did not have a Bluetooth speaker or Smart TV as advertised. When we asked about this, no action was taken.

Food and drinks: The variety of food at El Batey is not great. Options are limited and often repeated throughout the week. Many of the mixed drinks at the bars are very sugary. There are no options for food between 5:00 pm and 6:30 pm. Dinner starts at 6:30 pm so you’re out of luck if you get hungry before that.

I have visited this resort a couple of times and it never disappoints me. The location is ideal and the grounds are always well kept and it’s clean and tidy. I always enjoy my time at here and I always fell very welcomed by the staff. The animation team especially work very hard and always try to make sure you are having a good time and really enjoying yourself whether it’s the games during the day or the shows on a night. One staff member in particular always stands out for me and that’s ‘mono’ he is really good at his job and always works hard. When I was at the resort this time he was also the dj which he is really good at. He always made sure the music was a good mix for everyone to enjoy. I’ll definitely be back!!

I stayd at the resort this past week and the hotel is amazing , staff was great but the best part was the animation..they kept us entertained at the pool and the theater at the night with there show. There was one employee that stands out the most they called him “mono” he was amazing he spoke several languages and had me and my family laughing the whole time I was there he was also the DJ.over all recommend that hotel to everybody I know..

First things first I do realize that this resort is a 3 star all inclusive but I have stayed at other resorts that were three stars and have been treated 1000% better than here…

This has been THE worst place I have ever stayed at in my life. We couldn’t afford anything crazy for our honeymoon so we read the reviews and it seemed like it would be a nice place to come to celebrate!

On our arrival day we checked in and were given only one key card. We were then asked if we would like a safe which cost us 20$ and then he asked if we would like internet for 20$ per phone as well, we paid these extra fees as we wanted a safe and we needed at least one of our phones to have internet. He gave us a safe key and told us rudely if we lost it we would be charged. He then proceeded to give us our towel cards and told us again rudely If we lost those we would also be charged (these are flimsy paper cards that would be ruined if they got wet, at a beach destination…)

We then proceeded to the room excited for our all inclusive vacation to finally begin!! After paying the extra fees.
We opened the door to our room and realized right away we had made a terrible mistake. Our rooms air conditioner was not working, the floors were dirty and stained as well as the walls. The furniture was broken and dirty, our fridge was not working, the patio door lock was broken, the curtain was broken, the light on the patio was broken and flickering on and off, the wall outlets were falling out of the walls and the shower head was also falling out of the wall and taped together.
We went back to the front desk and asked if there was any way we could change rooms as the one we were given was not clean and almost everything in it was broken, the front desk agent said he could only give us a renovated room for 10 extra dollars per night. So after another unexpected payment of 80$ we were off to our new room, it was clean and had way less that was broken in it lucky us!
We were happy to finally be in an air conditioned room after our long travel day and both decided that we would make the best of our honeymoon even though the start had been stressful and frustrating.

We quickly realized that the staff at the bar and all the restaurants did not speak any English, were very rude to anyone who didn’t speak Spanish and looked like they hated being there and hated that we were there. We felt bad ordering a drink. They catered mainly to the locals and anyone who could speak Spanish. This became a huge trend all around the resort as we tried to go to one of the shows and they only spoke spanish and slipped in an English word every 15minutes so we just sat there and did not understand anything that was going on. The only staff that treated us well were the spa staff because we bought massages and any staff that was trying to sell something to us..
We also noticed the facilities were not clean and they had no daily activities like it had said online when booking.

On a couple different occasions we went to the front desk to ask questions and were treated like we were their worst enemy. They were probably the rudest staff out of the entire place which is super unfortunate because they are supposed to be there to help.. which they were most definitely not.
We noticed we had only gotten two bottles of water per day (in a place where they have a sign on the mirror telling you not to drink the tap water) and when we asked for a couple more the front desk staff scoffed at us, said no and told us that we needed to go get our own water bottles off resort if we wanted more. (Definitely didn’t feel very all inclusive)

On another evening we were enjoying a drink by one of the bars and noticed that Christmas music was playing. Which is no big deal at all. I just figured I would let them know and when I approached the front desk and asked politely if there was any way they could change the music he laughed in my face and told me he was busy and he would maybe fix it later when he had time.

Another night I was not feeling very well and we had already had our ration of 1 bottle of water each for the day. My husband once again tried to go down to the front desk and ask if there was any way to get a bottle of water as I was feeling unwell and they scoffed at him once again and told him again that he had to go off the resort for water even if I wasn’t feeling well..
(Keep in mind they also tell you not to go off resort at night and this was @830pm) they won’t even let you on the beach at night or in the pools. There was literally nothing to do in this place past 7 because we were not allowed to do anything.
They did not give us water and my husband went and bought me one.

On our 4th day of feeling like we were not welcome at all we finally asked if there was any way to pay extra and go to the select side of the resort.. they told us we needed to go to the other reception to pay for this. We went over to that side and paid an extra 200$ for the last three days without even getting a room change and finally found that we were not totally shunned and laughed at by all the staff in this side and that the facilities were actually kept clean in this area. Oh and on this side we were actually allowed to have more then one water bottle a day for once so we didn’t get heat stroke.

Even after paying all the extra fees I would still not recommend this place to anyone

I stayed 2 weeks at the SELECT (Adults Only) side of Casa Marina Resort in Sosua.

It was my first time visiting DR and this resort.

The resort lived up to the expectations.

I had a Gardenview room in the select area (building 1) on the top floor. The room was a bit "hot" even with the AC running, but not a huge deal to me. The lower floors were allegedly cooler.

The weather was absolutely amazing with nearly NO rain at all and almost 30C every day in late January. Amazing.

The ocean was calm most days but when I first arrived the Red Flags were up and the swell was HUGE. As the ocean calmed, the resort was a bit slow to take down the Red and then Yellow Flags. You can jump in from the rocks on the right side!!

The food in the one Adults Only restaurant (Hermans) was good. Make reservations in the mornings. I didn't care for the other restaurants. Buffet breakfast was fine but need BACON everyday.

The servers around the Select Pool were great. The Wrap de Pollo was a fantastic lunch. Presidente on tap, and a few Models and Coors cans in the room fridge.

Reaort should amend its policy of "Men Need Sleeves" to enter the buffet. Times have changed and if women can enter in a tank top I should be able to also enter in a tank top - especially for breakfast!! Like cmon.

As this was in the height of Omicron, the resort did do well in its policies and departure testing. Hopefully this won't be needed on next visit!! :)

The best part of the resort is its proximity to Sosua the town on the doorstep. Had great times off-resort enjoying the flavors and culture of area bars and restaurants.

I will definitely be back (to the SELECT side) of this resort!

The employees were so much fun and attentive to our needs it made our vacation better. Le select made our experience unique and since that part of the resort was not full we enjoyed everything. The only negative side are the locals on the weekend that they let be loud and annoying through the whole night. I understand it is their country but where is the respect for others? And the resort does not do anything about it. Even after calling reception. But the pools and the view were perfect. The restaurant Herman was a pleasant surprise. The food and the staff deserve a 5 star review.
