All in all a great resort

Reviewed Mar 11, 2022
I really loved this resort, we stayed for 6 days and thought the staff, amenities, rooms and views were all great. The drinks are strong, the pools are great, and it doesn't feel like a massive resort "complex". The sunsets also can't be beat.

We agree with some of the other reviews that paying for Select might not be worth it. The select-only pool / beach was too small for the number of guests, we never once got a seat there, but there was plenty of seating by the other pools. We weren't overly impressed by the Select only restaurant, but we did utilize the discount at the spa and the select only snack bar. It was also nice to have mimosas at breakfast, but overall is that worth the extra cost? A few mimosas and some mid-day snacks? Probably not.

Overall, would stay again, probably wouldn't do Select again.

The staff at Casa Marina are lovely, but they don’t have a lot to work with. The facilities are older and although it was clean, the rooms were basic and the grounds somewhat lacking.

The food was awful. Not only was it the same every day and even the ‘higher end’ restaurant barely changed its menu, the food that was available was barely passable. Not a lot of fresh fruit and sometimes so overripe that it bordered on being off.

The beach is tiny - 100 metres long and the waves so rough it was closed for days on end. The town itself is also charmless. Do yourself a favour and go to Punta Cana for the same price. This is definitely not a place for a family vacation.

Room tip: Avoid the whole town. It is not appropriate for families travelling with young kids.

Sad to see the select side going downhill as the amenities are not being enforced. Paid extra for those amenities but seems both the beach and pools are open to everyone. The management needs to get involved or no one will pay the extra dollars to upgrade.

This was our second time at the select side of The Casa Marina resort. We came in with open minds and lessened expectations as this was our first all inclusive experience since COVID and we knew there would be some differences because of that. Our last visit was Feb 2020 just before covid. It is not the same experience at all anymore.

The select customer service desk is still great and they do everything they can to help you with all your needs. Kudos to Jennifer! The rest of the experience was just OK. The select experience is gone. They are obviously using many of the select rooms as overflow from the regular casa marina as while around the pool most of the traffic back and forth are non select bracelets moving to and from their rooms. I sat next to people with older children for periods multiple times with nothing noticed or said by staff. I ate at the select side of the buffet with people every day with non select bracelets or no bracelets at all. The select section of the beach and chairs filled by guests with non select bracelets was completely unenforced other than one day when we were literally unable to find a chair anywhere on the beach and brought it to Jennifer's attention. Security immediately then came and literally did a sweep emptying anyone from a select chair and section, but as soon as they left the people moved back in.

The a la carte restaurants were still great with no complaints and the buffet has lots of selection, but the menu has become noticeably geared toward the guests staying there which was a bit disappointing for us. The majority of resort occupancy is very notably eastern European now. During our previous stay we enjoyed the theme nights at the buffet each night, but we do not have much use for a selection of boiled potatoes, cabbage and sliced onions breakfast, lunch and dinner. We did not fault them for this as they are easily 75% of the guests and so they have catered to that, however we just found it a bit harder to find "our palate" of foods this trip.

The experience was still lovely and is a good value for what you pay, but unfortunately the extra for select is really not as valuable as it once was. Our next trip we will likely spend an extra $100-300 dollars to stay somewhere actually adults only and select like a Riu etc.

Much appreation to the staff for doing what they can to make everyone enjoy a week or two of relaxation in the sun!

Overall good stay, paid extra for the select side of the resort ( have always for the passed X amount of years)
but not worth the extra money anymore as the previous years if you paid for the select side you didn’t have to worry about children running around on your side and only people that have the select side got to use the those pools beach ect; but not the case anymore as it’s anyone can use it as it’s not enforced. The beach seems to be also open to anyone regardless if your are part of the regular resort, and the part where select get their own part of the beach also doesn’t seem to happen or be enforced as well as locals seem to also be using it. In pervious stays only select side people got the one part of the beach and it was enforced. Seems like the purpose of the paying the extra hundreds of dollars for adults only and not so busy pools and beach side isn’t worth it and a little disappointed cause it was really great on previous stays and definitely worth the extra money to have your own little paradise. Maybe about time to change resorts for next years trips. But if you pay extra for select don’t expect what is advertised . Or if you have been previously it has changed to a everyone uses everything and select doesn’t exist other then check in. Food is still good and staff are great.
