I will first review the Hotel and in the end, thank the staff of the hotel and its owner for my pleasant experience of living with them for 31 days.
Food: The Buffet Restaurant serves Traditional Dominican fare, with a Chicken, Fish or Beef option every night. They have rice and beans and many vegetables. Their food was good, but after a few days, I had to learn to taste some and try out some of the food from restaurants in town. But they had good options for those with Allergies and they cooked you any food you asked for, right at the spot. They even let my do some of my famous Burgers with their staff in the kitchen. :D.
Infrastructure: Imagine going to a hotel that was built in the 1980's, and its design stayed there, literally. Its decor and its feeling is of 1994. With big rooms, and tile floors, classic lighting and basic, classic bathrooms with tubs. It is not a modern hotel, but it is very well preserved and managed hotel. Everything is very clean. VERY CLEAN. There is a Buffet Restaurant, which serves all meals, either in their grand saloon or their BBQ area by the bar with its pool table and sea side views. There is a pool area with its own jacuzzi and sun tanning area. It has access to two areas of beach. It has parking for 16 vehicles and No personal laundry service. It is a 3-Star hotel with some higher amenities, thanks to its staff.
Rooms: The Rooms are basic, with very clean spaces, that are taken care of even twice a day or more if you ask for it. All rooms have a King Size Bed with classic furniture and a TV set (Which I never turned on, because it was not necessary). Mine was a suite which had an adjacent room and its own Fridge, which you can stock with anything. The A/C was very well kept in the master room, but in the adjacent suite room, it was not, and this is where this hotel shines, their staff PURCHASED a Brand New A/C and installed it, while I was away, so that I could have good A/C in that room. All I did was say that is was hot, and they went out of their way to assure me that it would be fixed! This is what I call 7-Star Hospitality.
Staff: I have nothing but gratefulness towards all of those who served me while I lived there. This is probably the best staffed Hotel I have ever stayed at, In my entire life. I would most definitely go back to this hotel, just for its Staff service. It was made that much more amazing because they went really out of their way to make sure they got to know you and treated you right. They learned my hours for being outside of the room and attended to it then, they brought in flowers and decoration for when my wife came to visit me, they knew what kind of soup I liked, and deliberately made it easy to get, they knew what allergies I had, and cleaned the room just the right way...my list could go on and on. It was truly worth every penny. This is what true hospitality is about.
Summary: My first impression of the place was that this is the kind for hotel that was great in 1994, but that hasn't changed much since then. Yet I was not aware, that the most valuable asset of this place, was not its infrastructure, but something much more important...its people. I was incredibly well treated during my life in Sosua, because the staff of this hotel is really hands on with you. I knew everyone's name by the end of my journey, and I was treated like family. I have very fond memories from this stay, and I am very grateful for their services. I truly recommend staying here, and having your own adventures as part of the Sosua by the Sea family.
If you have to choose where to stay in Sosua, don't choose, I doubt there will be a more pleasant choice than Sosua by the Sea.
