We stayed Jan 21-28, 2024. Hotel is listed as a 4-star plus, when it’s a three-star at best.
First the negative:
Room: 3/10
We arrived late at night; got to the hotel at 2:30 am. The bellhop brought us to the first room, opened the door to water all over the floor. He left and came back with two more room keys. The next room we looked at had no shower door, no bedside lamp and no working phone. The third room (we took because we were exhausted) had a missing toilet paper holder, no bedside lamp, no working phone. When we woke up, there was water all over the floor in that room. They gave us a FOURTH and final room, that had no working phone, the furniture was beaten up with chunks taken out, paint or something else splattered on both mirrors, no working safe, and had a very strong mildew smell. The beds and pillows were both hard like rocks and uncomfortable. There wasn’t a chain or type of lock to keep the door closed; housekeeping entered our room without us having a chance to open the door for her. Housekeeping was fantastic though.
Food: 5/10
Food was hit or miss. Stuff made by the chef at the grill seemed to be the best. Their tacos were amazing. Italian night was really good but half of the items in the hot trays were cold (?). Pizza was always a good thing to fall back on. Drinks were delicious.
Now the good things:
Staff: 10/10
Every staff member we encountered was SO friendly and helpful. In particular Juan Carlos the beach server and Elias with the elite collection. They were all top notch. Can’t speak more highly of them.
Beach: 10/10
The beach was across a street that’s maybe 5m wide. It was absolutely BEAUTIFUL. There’s a beach snack grill and bar there; food was mediocre but it worked and the staff are great. Plenty of chairs, many are under trees so there are often plenty of chairs with shade. The sand was beautiful, water was often clear and warm. Maxed out at approx 5’ deep before the safety buoys, so perfect for wading. Crabs, pelicans, fish, beautiful birds. Barely any bugs. I didn’t have any issues with mosquitos.
Property: 9/10
The grounds themselves are gorgeous. Koi ponds, tall bamboo, palm trees and ferns. Pools are great with lots of chairs. Missing one point because the maps were outdated and there’s a small road between the rooms and beach. Nothing that’s a dealbreaker.
Long story short it’s a great budget hotel but is not what’s advertised; it’s not a four star. It’s a three star at best. But if you’re on a budget and want to relax, it’s a great place to go. Family friendly as well.
