Beach life

Reviewed Sep 14, 2022
Plantation is super simple and a few folks below seem to forget (or maybe didn't realise) what this place is all about. Its 50 years old for starters, and yes some of the tiles are a little worn and the food might be a little hit and miss - but what makes this place is the beach it sits on. Easily some of the safest, warmest and prettiest beach front on the planet. You also shouldn't be going to Fiji to sit in your room and watch Disney+.

So, if you want 5 star luxury you might want to consider the big guns in Denarau - but if you have a young family and want an affordable, easy, beautiful beach holiday then Plantation Island Resort is perfect for you. Also, $6 per hour babysitting?!?

After reading mixed reviews didn't have too high expectations however we had an excellent time! 4 pools to choose from & 3 restaurants. The little coffee bar by the tavola restaurant was awesome, yum coffee & smoothies. Various tours you can book at the activities centre. The 15min walk to musket cove was well worth it as well. The mini Mart is way over price $20 for 2x packets of chips however easily avoidable we had skipped lunch on the first day & kids couldn't hold out until dinner. Kids club was awesome with heaps of activities. Never felt overly crowded either. Will be back!

If you are looking for “5 star Denarau”, then go there (and good luck to you - this is so much better!).

Our family of 5 adults (kids aged 19,19&15) spent 6 nights here at the end of August and we all loved it. We were in room 242 and had a great beach and decent snorkeling metres from our door (we were one back from waterfront).

The food was some of the best I’ve ever had in Fiji and we all know you don’t go to Fiji for the food. (I’ve been to 10 different resorts over the years inc Hilton and Radisson in Denarau). We had the breakfast and dinner plan and it was really good and worked out very economical. We should have got the complete food plan for 3 meals a day, although lunch was not expensive. We could choose any of the 3 restaurants to have our dinners at and the choice of two for breakfast and lunch.

Our 2 bedroom Bure was 15 metres from the water and was comfortable and clean. The fridge is bigger than in most and I brought ice trays over with me and we had our duty free sun downers each night without running out of ice. They were very roomy with comfy beds.

The water isn’t drinking quality, but they give each person a large bottle of water on arrival and there are several clean water filling stations around the resort to refill the bottle.

We did the open ocean snorkeling trip which was great. We didn’t have enough in our group to do the island hop trip that would have taken us to Mana island (and others) and no one else out their names down to join - so we hired a local and went to Mana island for a few hours (as we had been there 12 years ago and wanted to go back).

It goes without saying but the staff are so friendly and helpful. They really make you feel like their piece of paradise is yours while you are there!!

I don’t normally write reviews but read (quite a few) negative ones here before I left and felt they were a completely unfair representation of the resort. They are more likely an unhappy reflection of person who wrote it!

Seriously if you want to go on a reasonably price island holiday in paradise you can’t look past Plantation Island Resort.

My partner and I traveled to Fiji on the 18th of August 2022.

Plantation Island resort is a magical place! With beautiful beaches, great staff, and tones of water activities.

We spent 7 days in this little paradise! And we couldn’t be more grateful. We don’t have kids but we could tell it is a great place to bring the little ones. But also good for couples that enjoy doing activities outside the room.

The beach in the resort couldn’t be any better. The snorkeling in the area is amazing and the scuba diving is out of this world. The water around the resort is extremely calm and the colour of the water is like a postcard picture.

Let’s be honest, there are multiple resorts in the area, more focused on couples and older people. But if you don’t mind the kids running around and you spend most of the time doing activities, we are sure this will not be an issue.

The rooms are a 3 star resort room, nothing fancy. But a good bed, good shower, good toilet and a good working aircon. If you want the Instagram room you may want to book somewhere else. But for us we spent most of our 7 days out of the room, it was perfect and great value for $$. And the beach is 100% amazing. We can guarantee you will want to spend most of your time there.

When you come here please do at least a dive! And the deep water snorkel trip. The island hoping tour .. was a bit boring, they just take you to other resorts.. not very interesting.

Good selection of restaurants and variety! However please note that the prices in the island for snacks are a bit high. Please consider this is an island in the middle of nowhere, so it is fair the snack store has higher prices. So if you want to save some money we highly recommend to buy snacks at the port or prior.

We loved it there, we hope we can comeback one day ❤️🐬🇫🇯

We saw a lot of bad reviews before we came here and we don’t think it is fair! We are 100% happy we came to plantation island resort❤️

Big busy resort with heaps to do. Fantastic for families with heaps of kids activities, kids club, and cheap babysitting at $6 per hour.

Resort was 93% full when we were there with 600+ guests. Couple of slipups in service. Booked early for dinner at the Black coral; Somehow our order vanished for 2 of 4 guests. Well rectified by manager Justin when we complained after 1 hour+ of waiting - free drinks and meals after it was brought to his attention.

Shortstay of three days. Difficulty booking in for dives. My partner manage to dive first day. Thought he was booked for day two-turns out he wasn’t. Couldn’t get another dive in. Book early!

Last night dinner at Lomani (adults only) next door-outstanding. Similar prices to plantation island; much better service and food with a great band. Recommend it!

Room tip: Buy foodstuffs on the mainland and bring to the island, part icularly if on a budget. Limited supplies at traders grocer at musket cove.

We stayed at plantation island resort for 5 nights and it was 4 nights too long. We were dropped off at our room which was the middle of a group of three and had two interconnecting rooms either side. The walls were so thin that we could clearly hear both families on either sides conversations. We requested to move and were told that the upgrade would be an extra $60 per night. We agreed. When we arrived at our new room it was a third of the size of the first room, but more expensive! The rooms are very run down and basic.
The food is horrific. Breakfast buffet consistently offered left overs from the nights before buffet dinner offerings and was gluggy and cold. We were told on arrival that one of the restaurants was adults only, reception then told us that all restaurants are family friendly.
We hired a nanny for our 15mth old while we went on a snorkel trip, the nanny didn’t turn up so we missed our trip. We rebooked for the next day and a man arrived to look after our son. He has little to no English! We walked our son over to the kids club and requested that the nanny stay at the kids club with our son. Later that day we ran into the nanny and he was in the maintenance crew uniform! They had sent a maintenance man to look after our baby!
We paid to go on a dolphin cruise. We didn’t see dolphins. Now I know that they can’t guarantee we would see them but no one we spoke to saw dolphins on the dolphin cruise in the time we were there.
The beach and sunsets were stunning but that’s the only thing this resort has to offer and you can get that at many other resorts.
There’s no wifi anywhere on the resort and supplies are overpriced! 2 icecreams, 2 cans of drink and 2 chocolate bars $40AU
The staff were disinterested and frankly couldn’t be bothered and their English was very basic compared to other places we stayed
Overall we were very disappointed and won’t be back.
