Worst stay so far on our journey. The “room” was dark, smelled bad and the toilet was dirty. We asked if we could get the toilet cleaned and felt mocked when we asked. We think the receptionist had a nonchalant demeanor which we didn’t appreciate, it came across as if everything we asked was too difficult.
Room had no glass windows so the aircon wasn’t working properly, it was also leaking onto a spare bed. The windows had wooden shutters which anyone from outside would be able to open. We couldnt close them from the inside because a mosquito net was blocking it. No fridge, nowhere to put your stuff, a wonky bamboo thing in the bathroom for your towels but the bathroom was humid so it was useless.
We had asked for two single beds but got one king bed and one separate single bed which wasnt made so I went to ask for a blanket. Receptionist said she didn’t know where it was and she would help next morning when the cleaning crew came. Next morning they made the king bed into 2 single ones. (Note: the spare bed was still unmade and had wet stains on it but we didn’t say anything about it because we didn’t feel like getting mocked again.) Turns out there were bed bugs on the spare bed, we figured out the last night when my friend sat on it in her bikini, next morning she woke up and she was covered in bites. They refunded our last night which was very kind and we did appreciate that. However we found the process of it quite odd because we had to ask booking dot com for a refund while we had paid the accomodation in cash. The lady told us she couldn’t just give us money back so we contacted the website and in the end we still had to figure it out with Sarana themselves. Because we had left the island they gave us the money in cash through a ferry to Koh Samui where we picked it up at the pier.
Another thing was that they seem to work together with a big travel company and everyday there were loud tourists swarming the pool and yelling loudly at night. They also seemed to get better treatment as they got the nice pool and beach view bungalows which, even from the outside, already looked a lot better. They also arranged several activities for this group like a BBQ which left us feeling extremely excluded and like an imposter in our own accommodation. I do not mind if an accommodation makes their money this way but we wouldn’t have booked it if we were made aware of it. Unfortunately they don’t state this anywhere on the booking website which is a shame.
The only nice thing I could say about this was that the bar staff was very nice and friendly and we enjoyed the fact that we could get free water. The location at the beach was fine but the big travel groups ruined this for us. Other than that you definitely need a scooter to see things and paying for taxis there will leave you broke
